"This is where I thought we were going.”

Kim Kardashian caused controversy when it was revealed that her trip to India did not live up to expectations as it did not resemble scenes from Disney’s Aladdin.

In the latest episode of The Kardashians on Hulu, cameras followed Kim Kardashian and her sister Khloé as they travelled to Mumbai.

The two were in India for the wedding of Anant Ambani, son of Mukesh Ambani, to Radhika Merchant.

Kim and Khloé arrived in India at midnight for a whirlwind 48-hour stay.

They arrived in India at midnight and before going to sleep, the reality stars did an outfit fitting.

Determined to explore before the wedding, they planned to visit local markets.

Khloé said: “We’re only here for 48 hours, and we do have a schedule.

“We’re planning to go to some of the local markets before we have to go to the wedding so we can enjoy as much of India as possible.”

Kim added: “I wanted to explore the city.”

However, Kim appeared to be disappointed as she thought the markets would be similar to those seen in Aladdin, which is set in the fictional Middle Eastern city of Agrabah, not India.

Kim admitted: “I thought it was going to be like the marketplace.

“This is like the streets.

“What you see Aladdin going through and stealing some bread from. This is where I thought we were going.”

The sisters were further surprised when they were asked to walk to the vendors rather than being driven.

The experience proved overwhelming for Kim Kardashian: “Oh! I don’t do random dogs!”

Khloé lightened the moment by pointing out a Starbucks, later saying in her confessional:

“We’re not in Calabasas anymore.

“There’s rickshaws going by, everyone was so surprised, like, ‘What the f*** are these people doing here?’”

Kim Kardashian described the market as “mayhem”.

After watching the episode, viewers were not happy.

One wrote on X: “Agrabah and Aladdin isn’t even based in India, it’s supposed to be the Middle East and is a fictionalised portrayal of Middle Eastern culture (or at least an attempt).

“They should have tried the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul.”

Another joked: “Spoiler: it wasn’t a magic carpet ride! Guess she was expecting more.”

The Ambani wedding was a huge spectacle and was attended by over 1,000 VIPs but on her reality show, Kim Kardashian revealed she doesn’t actually know the Ambani family.

She said:

“I actually don’t know the Ambanis. We definitely have friends in common.”

Explaining that jeweller Lorraine Schwartz designs jewellery for the Ambanis and she told her that they were interested in inviting the Kardashians to the wedding, Kim continued:

“Lorraine Schwartz is one of our good friends. She is a jeweller. She does jewellery for the Ambani family.

“She told me she was going to their wedding and they would love to invite you and we just went on a whim and said ‘sure’.”

Discussing the invitation, Khloé said: “Even the invitation that we received was 40-50 pounds and it had music coming out of it.

“It was crazy so I think when we saw the invitation, we were like, you don’t say no to something like this.”
