"I believe this is the right club for me at this time in my career."
Brandon Khela has completed a permanent move to Peterborough United, signing a four-year contract with an option for a fifth. The midfielder joins from Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee.
Khela, who had been at Birmingham City since the age of seven, said he is looking forward to the next stage of his career.
He said: “It was obviously a big decision to make because I have been at Birmingham City for a long time, but Posh have been looking at me for quite a while and I am excited to be here.
“Speaking with the manager, knowing how the club play and also the age profile of the squad will suit me and I believe this is the right club for me at this time in my career.”
Khela impressed during his loan spell at Bradford City last season, where he made 15 appearances and played a part in their promotion from League Two.
He continued: “I really enjoyed my loan spell at Bradford and I am grateful for that opportunity, because not only did I get to play regular game time but it was in a side that were successful.
“I am delighted to have my future sorted so early in pre-season, now I can concentrate on getting my head down and working hard in training.
“Next week will be good at St George’s Park to really get to know everyone.”
Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson believes the signing is a significant one for the club.
Ferguson said: “I think he is going to be a really good player, he is an excellent signing for the football club.
“He has been with Birmingham City for most of his life. He had a loan stint at Bradford City last season, played 15 times and I like the fact he played for a team that had to win every week.
“You have to do that at Bradford and of course, they went on to gain promotion.
“I know there were other clubs interested, but the chairman has managed to get this done and I am delighted.”
Born in Coventry, Brandon Khela made his senior debut for Birmingham in August 2023. He featured in the league later that year before being loaned to Ross County for the second half of the 2023–24 season.
He returned to England in January and joined Bradford, helping them secure automatic promotion. His performances there convinced League One side Peterborough to make a move.
Khela will join up with the squad on June 26. The team travels to St George’s Park for a training camp, before facing Leicester City in a pre-season friendly on July 5.
