Arjun Rampal may be set to star as ‘The Professor’ in the Desi film adaptation of Netflix crime series Money Heist.
The Bollywood actor appears to have been cast as the lead for the movie, which has reportedly been titled Three Monkeys.
It will be created by filmmaking duo Abbas-Mustan, who are best known for their catalogue of suspense and action films.
Scheduled for release in 2022, the movie is thought to also feature Abbas Burmawalla’s actor son Mustafa Burmawalla.
A source close to the production told PinkVilla:
“Arjun Rampal’s character is on the lines of professor from Money Heist, whereas Mustafa along with two other actors will be playing the robbers.
“All the three robbers, alongside the professor, will have a unique dimension, with all working together for a hidden motive of personal gains.
“Abbas and Mustan have been a master at adapting international thrillers and in the same way, they have brought in their own flavour to the narrative of Three Monkeys.”
Shooting for the highly anticipated film is expected to start within the next few months at multiple locations, beginning with Mumbai.
The Spanish Netflix Original has a massive following in India and the Hindi version is therefore expected to be a major success.
Money Heist follows a criminal mastermind known as ‘The Professor’ as he tries to pull off the biggest heist in history.
He hopes to print billions of euros at the Royal Mint of Spain with the help of eight recruits who have nothing to lose.
Arjun Rampal made his acting debut in Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat (2001).
Rajiv Rai’s romance also featured Keerthi Reddy, Aftab Shivdasani, Suniel Shetty and a number of other actors.
Rampal then went on to appear in a number of movies throughout the years, including Om Shanti Om (2007).
Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, the film became India’s highest-grossing production ever up to that point.
Following the major success of the movie, Rampal continued to rise as a successful actor and soon became a household name.
He most recently appeared in The Rapist (2021) which also starred Konkona Sen Sharma, Tanmay Dhanania and Anindita Bose.
The actor also has a number of upcoming projects, including Dhaakad (2022) and The Battle of Bhima Koregaon (2022).
Neither Abbas-Mustan nor Arjun Rampal have yet confirmed whether the actor will indeed star in Three Monkeys.
