"I think it’s unfair these girls message me first, they turn up wherever you are."
After facing accusations of cheating on Faryal Makhdoom, Amir Khan has responded to the allegations. He claims women “set [him] up” by asking for photos and messaging him first.
The boxer made the comments in an interview with The Sunday People. When the discussion turned to accusations, Amir said:
“I think it’s unfair these girls message me first, they turn up wherever you are.
“Nowadays you can see where you are so I must have tweeted that I was in a hotel with a friend having some drinks in a bar and the girl comes up there, they set you up and take a picture.”
He also added he feels too rude to refuse pictures, saying:
“I’m a kind guy. I’m not a guy who would say to someone, ‘Go away and leave me alone’, but would sit there and have someone sat there taking pictures with you.”
Throughout his relationship with Faryal, the 31-year-old faced numerous rumours of cheating. This only increased during the couple’s marriage rift and he even suggested that Faryal had an affair with Anthony Joshua – which Amir later made a public apology.
Recently, new allegations emerged after his appearance on Good Morning Britain where he described himself as a “family man”. One woman claimed he had a passionate encounter with her at a hotel hours after the live interview.
Another woman also told newspapers how Amir allegedly sent 77 texts to her, attempting to plan a date with her.
At the National Television Awards, held on 23rd January 2018, the British Asian boxer told reporters how he and Faryal were “fine”, despite the rumours. He said: “Everything’s fine at home. [Faryal]’s good.
“She’s very supportive. She supports me, helps me. She’s always there through thick and thin. So I have to take my hat off to her.”
With Amir responding to the allegations, perhaps he now hopes it will divert fans’ attention to his career. He recently announced his return to the boxing ring, after signing a three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn.
The boxer’s opponent for his first match on 21st April has now been revealed as Phil Lo Greco. However, he faces strong competition with Lo Greco, who has won 28 of his 31 professional fights. Amir said:
“I can’t wait to get back into the ring. Phil Lo Greco will be coming with everything to win this fight and I’m not going to give him an inch.
“He’s an aggressive fighter who is always looking to press the fight and come forward. That makes for a very exciting and action-packed fight for the fans.
“I respect him as a fighter and know he will be coming with big ambitions but I’m going to put on a great performance and prove to the boxing world that the ‘King’ is well and truly back.”
The two will hold a special press conference on 30th January 2018. With Amir’s response to the cheating allegations, it seems he now focuses ahead to his exciting match.
