Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has pledged to donate Rs 25 crore (£2,680,733.40) in the fight to prevent the spread of the deadly Coronavirus.
Undoubtedly, this is one of the biggest gestures made by a Bollywood celebrity and his contribution is certainly praiseworthy.
His donation came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi requested people to donate to the PM-CARES Fund.
The money will be used against the country’s fight against the Coronavirus pandemic. He took to Twitter to make the announcement saying:
“The PM-CARES Fund accepts micro-donations too. It will strengthen disaster management capacities and encourage research on protecting citizens.
“Let us leave no stone unturned to make India healthier and more prosperous for our future generations.”
In response to the Prime Minister’s tweet, Akshay Kumar pledged to donate money from his savings. He tweeted:
“This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people. And we need to do anything and everything it takes.
“I pledge to contribute Rs 25 crores (£2,680,733.40) from my savings to @narendramodi ji’s PM-CARES Fund. Let’s save lives, Jaan hai toh jahaan hai.”

Shortly, after Akshay Kumar made his announcement on Twitter, his wife Twinkle Khanna praised the actor.
In the tweet shared by the 46-year-old former actress, Twinkle recalled the conversation she had with her husband over the donation.
She wanted to ensure he was certain about donated such a large amount. She said:
“The man makes me proud.”
“When I asked him if he was sure as it was such a massive mount and we needed to liquidate funds, he just said, ‘I had nothing when I started and now that I am in this position, how can I hold back from doing whatever I can for those who have nothing.”

During the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, Akshay Kumar has been raising awareness on his social media.
Akshay has urged people to self-isolate and follow the guidelines set by the Indian government concerning the 21-day nationwide lockdown.
Recently, Akshay took to Twitter to vent his frustration concerning people’s ignorance over the matter.
The actor condemned those people who continued to leave their homes despite the nationwide lockdown.
Currently, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs in India, the Coronavirus has infected 873 people and claimed 19 lives.
Akshay Kumar’s generous gesture will surely help the country in its aim to combat the spread of the virus.
