Actress Gemma Atkinson 'quits' Emmerdale to join Bollywood

"I’d definitely love to work more in Bollywood."

Reports are surfacing that actress Gemma Atkinson has quit UK soap Emmerdale to join Bollywood. The 32-year-old actress is said to have told bosses last week that she will be leaving the Yorkshire soap.

Gemma Atkinson is reportedly setting her sights on Bollywood. Soap bosses will be allegedly planning her exit in the upcoming months. Reports are suggesting that she will focus on her radio career as well.

In 2015, Gemma Atkinson made her first appearance in Emmerdale as Carly Hope. Her entrance received headlines in the media as she appeared in a wedding dress. Her story lines in the soap have included tragic cot death and romance with long-running character Marlon Dingle.

Before appearing in the soap, she has made a successful career as a British TV actress. Her previous TV roles include Hollyoaks and Casualty. Her real life has also made headlines, as she once had a brief relationship with Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo. Recently, she has also joined Key 103 Radio as a radio show host.

The juggle between Emmerdale and her radio show has appeared to be too much. A source told the Sun:

“She’s taking an extended break to focus on other avenues. She loves doing the radio and also wants to broaden her horizons on the acting front.”

It seems that Bollywood is where she wants to broaden her horizons. However, Gemma Atkinson is not new to Bollywood. Just last year, 2016, she made her debut in Fever and starred alongside Rajeev Khandelwal.

In past interviews, she expressed her excitement about this first Bollywood venture. She says: “I’ve had loads of nice messages from people over in India.”

She also adds: “I’d definitely love to work more in Bollywood — if the script was great and the chance came around.” Maybe now she has found the perfect opportunity to follow her dreams?

While Fever didn’t receive outstanding reviews, it seems Gemma Atkinson is still keen to expand her Bollywood career. Will she appear in films alongside the big Bollywood celebrities, such as Shuhrukh Khan? One can only wonder.

Fans will be eagerly waiting to hear the latest on this story.
