“she has decided to take the plunge.”
TV actress and Bigg Boss 7 contestant Kamya Punjabi may be about to join the Indian Congress Party.
It is thought that the 42-year-old actress will soon announce her entrance into the political arena.
It comes after a source told the Times of India:
“Kamya always aspired to get into politics.
“However, she couldn’t take the plunge earlier due to her work and busy schedule.
“Now that her show Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki has wrapped up, she has decided to take the plunge.”
Punjabi was a recurring character in the drama Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki which first aired on Colors TV in 2016.
It recently came to a close in 2021, making it the channel’s fourth longest-running programme ever.
Speaking about its culmination, the actress previously said:
“On the last day of the shoot, I cried a lot when the director announced pack-up.
“I didn’t leave the set for a couple of hours. It has been a few days since the shoot wrapped up, but I continue to feel low.
“Shakti is a brand, which started on a beautiful note, and I am glad that it has ended on a high instead of being dragged unnecessarily.
“It’s just that if someone is going to kick you out, it’s better if you leave by yourself with respect.
“Today, many shows are returning with the second season and I am sure Shakti will come back, too.”
Punjabi has appeared in various dramas in the past, most notably Zee TV’s Banoo Main Teri Dulhann.
She was cast in the main role of Sindoora alongside the show’s lead actors, Divyanka Tripathi and Sharad Malhotra.
The actress also featured in a number of Bollywood movies in the early 2000s.
These included classics such as Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000) and Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000).
Punjabi was previously a contestant in the reality television series Bigg Boss in 2013 and was evicted on day 91 after being there from the beginning.
Bigg Boss 7 was eventually won by model and actress Gauahar Khan.
The actress most recently made headlines after calling Aryan Khan’s most recent bail rejection harassment and a one-sided opinion on social media amid his ongoing drugs case.
Neither the ruling party nor Punjabi herself have commented on the news that she could be joining Indian National Congress.
