Yami Gautam says Don’t 'Seek Validation’ after Filmfare Snub f

"You don’t need to seek validation for your work"

Bollywood actress Yami Gautam has addressed her perceived snub at the Filmfare Awards 2020 with a statement on Instagram.

Yami was not nominated for her performance in her latest film Bala (2019) despite the film being nominated in three categories.

These included Best Actor for Ayushmann Khurrana, Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Seema Pahwa and Best Dialogue for Niren Bhatt.

The comedy film starred Ayushmann Khurrana, Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam in lead roles.

Bala (2019) revolved around the concept of premature balding in an exceptionally hilarious yet emphatic manner.

The actress stated that after receiving “countless messages” she felt compelled to say something in response for supposedly being “overlooked and not being nominated for (her) performance in Bala (2019).”

Yami took to Instagram to share her reaction to these “countless messages”. She said:

“Honestly winning an award does feel like a strong sense of achievement and confidence. But more than that, a nomination in itself, is a mark of acknowledgement, love and respect towards your hard work and talent.

“Having said that, the esteemed jury are some of the most noted and senior members of the fraternity who have made important contributions in cinema. Hence, I shall respectfully accept their perspectives.”

Yami Gautam continued to state how receiving nominations and awards are not necessary to determine your work. She said:

“In the end, I just want to say, these are just experiences which make you even more self-assured and determined in life.

“It re-instates your faith, in the fact, that you don’t need to seek validation for your work or yourself from anyone.

“The kind of love that I have received this year, from the industry, critics, media, my talented fellow contemporaries and most importantly YOU – my audience, for always showing unconditional love – selfless support, means the world to me as is enough to boost me to keep working harder.”

Yami ended the message on a positive note as she provided words of encouragement to her fans. She expressed:

“It doesn’t matter where you come from, who you are, just don’t ever give up and keep walking ahead. It’s a long journey and I’m a hustler for life.”

Praise for Yami Gautam poured in, in the comment section from those in the film fraternity and fans.

Ayushmann Khurrana left Yami a comment saying, “So proud YG.”

Ayushmann Khurrana’s wife, Tahira Kashyap also left a comment saying, “Buddha baby.”

Actor Vikrant Massey also praised the actress saying Yami was his “favourite human.”

Another person left a comment saying, “Guys … It’s the Filmfare, not Oscars. It doesn’t matter. Indian film awards are always sold, not awarded.”

Despite being ‘snubbed’ by the Filmfare Awards 2020, Yami Gautam’s performance in Bala (2019) was certainly exceptional.
