Yami Gautam lauded Cillian Murphy for his victory at the 96th Academy Awards.
The 2024 Oscars honoured the best films released in 2023 and took place on March 10, 2024.
Cillian Murphy took home his first ‘Best Actor’ win for portraying the title role in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
Yami spoke glowingly about the Irish actor while also slamming “fake” Indian award functions.
Writing on X, the Kaabil actress wrote:
“Having no belief in any of the current fake ‘filmy’ awards, since the last few years, I stopped attending them.
“But today I am feeling really happy for an extraordinary actor who stands for patience, resilience and so many more emotions.
“Watching him being honoured on the biggest global platform tells us that in the end, it’s your TALENT that stands the tallest above anything.
“Congratulations, #CillianMurphy.”
Yami Gautam began her acting career in 2009. She made her Hindi film debut with Vicky Donor (2012).
In 2020, she reacted to Filmfare snubbing her from nominations for her film Bala (2019).
Yami explained: “It re-instates your faith, in the fact, that you don’t need to seek validation for your work or yourself from anyone.”
Yami Gautam is not the only Bollywood celebrity to shun Indian award ceremonies.
Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn and Kangana Ranaut have also gained reputations for not attending award shows in India.
In 2022, Kangana threatened to sue the Filmfare awards when she was nominated for Thalaivii (2021).
The outspoken star had said: “I’ve banned unethical, corrupt and totally unfair practices like Filmfare since 2014.
“But since I have been getting many calls from them for attending their award function this year as they want to give me an award for Thalaivii.
“I am shocked to know that they are still nominating me.
“It is beneath my dignity, work ethics and value system to encourage such corrupt practices in any way.
“That is why I have decided to sue Filmfare, thanks.
“So when they know I won’t attend and as a policy, they won’t give awards to those who don’t attend, so why nominations?
“Making desperate blackmailing calls to attend awards after being pitted against mediocre work. What is the purpose of all this?”
Oppenheimer was a blockbuster when it was released and it dominated the Oscars, winning seven awards.
Along with Cillian Murphy earning a prize for his work, the film also won ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Director’ for Christopher Nolan.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Yami was last seen in Article 370 (2024), which garnered her major acclaim.
In February 2024, Yami Gautam announced that she and her husband Aditya Dhar were expecting their first child together.
