"I can’t wait to work alongside them in my new role"

ITV’s This Morning will see Vivek Sharma succeed Martin Frizell as the show’s editor.

In November 2024, it was revealed that Martin was leaving his role after 10 years at the programme.

From March 3, 2025, Vivek will take over.

Vivek has been associate editor on the channel’s flagship daytime show for the last 15 months.

He said of his new position: “Having grown up watching the show, it’s an incredible privilege and honour to take on the role of editor of This Morning.

“Over the last 37 years, the show has become a national institution and has been responsible for some of the most memorable moments on television.

“It’s a cherished part of millions of people’s mornings on TV and on social media, where someone interacts with This Morning content every second.

“The team on and off camera are world-class and I can’t wait to work alongside them in my new role, as we shape the future of this iconic brand.”

Vivek Sharma has a wealth of experience in TV.

Before joining This Morning, he was the executive editor of Steph’s Packed Lunch for the production company Expectation Entertainment from July 2022 to October 2023.

He also worked on the Channel 4 show as series editor between August 2020 and January 2022.

Vivek Sharma has had prior experience on This Morning, having worked as its deputy editor between 2016 and 2020. He also did maternity cover as the editor of Loose Women for six months in 2019.

He also worked for ITV’s Good Morning Britain for two years between 2014 and 2016, after another two years on its predecessor Daybreak and a year on Lorraine.

And Vivek spent time at Sky News between 2008 and 2009 when he worked as a senior programme editor for 5 News, Live from Studio 5 and OK! TV.

Meanwhile, Martin will use his time away from This Morning to spend more time – and care for – his wife, former GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2022.

In a statement announcing his departure, he said:

“Next year I’m expecting my family priorities to change so I need to free up time for them.”

“I love my team at ITV and will miss them and the thrill of live telly but it’s an always on, 24 hours a day, seven days a week commitment and I won’t be able to do both.”

It was previously reported that This Morning would be facing a potential overhaul amid Martin’s exit.

A source said: “This really is the end of an era for daytime telly; huge changes are afoot.

“The show has never truly recovered from Holly and Phil’s departure, and this is a chance to move on from the old guard and bring in fresh faces to detoxify the brand once and for all.”
