The Tamil film industry is in mourning following the passing of veteran actor Delhi Ganesh.

Ganesh died at the age of 80 on the night of November 9, 2024.

Renowned for his versatility and remarkable ability to embody unforgettable characters, Ganesh’s death marks the end of an era in Tamil cinema.

His family confirmed the sad news, stating that he passed away at around 11 pm due to health complications.

In a post, his son Maha Devan wrote: “We deeply regret to inform that our father Dr Delhi Ganesh has passed away on 9th November 2024 at around 11 pm.”

Following the announcement, his body was placed at his residence in Ramapuram, Chennai, allowing friends, family, and colleagues to pay their respects.

Among those who expressed their condolences were prominent actors Karthi and his father, who visited Ganesh’s home.

Other notable figures from the film fraternity, including Senthil, Radha Ravi, and Santhana Bharathi, also shared their grief.

Karthi shared a heartfelt tribute: “Saddened by the demise of Delhi Ganesh sir.

“His iconic roles in numerous films and his ability to bring unforgettable characters to life will forever be etched in the history of Tamil cinema. You will be deeply missed, sir.”

Thalapathy Vijay posted: “The news of veteran actor Mr Delhi Ganesh’s passing due to health issues brings deep sorrow.

“Having acted in over 400 films across diverse roles over more than 40 years, his sudden demise is a great loss to the Tamil film industry.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his grieving family and friends.”

Delhi Ganesh’s contributions to Tamil cinema were vast and celebrated.

Born with the stage name given by renowned filmmaker K Balachander, Delhi Ganesh made his debut in 1976 with Pattina Pravesam.

He received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize for his performance in Pasi (1979).

Ganesh was honoured with the prestigious Kalaimamani award in 1994 by former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

In the later years of his career, he ventured into television and short films, continuing to captivate audiences with his unique flair.

One standout role was his cameo as Alfred Pennyworth in the short film What If Batman Was from Chennai.

Over his illustrious career, he appeared in more than 400 films across Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam cinema.

His most celebrated performances include roles in classics such as Nayakan, Michael Madhana Kamarajan, Sindhu Bhairavi, and Iruvar.

Delhi Ganesh’s funeral is scheduled for November 11, 2024.

It will mark the farewell to a beloved figure whose impact on the film industry will be felt for years to come.
