“Don’t you know the meaning of a sitting?”
Veteran actress Upasana Singh shared a personal account of facing the casting couch during her early days in the entertainment industry.
In a candid interview, she recounted a disturbing experience with a South Indian director who signed her for a film alongside Anil Kapoor.
The actress explained how it affected her but ultimately made her stronger.
Upasana said she always took her mother or sister along whenever she visited the director’s office.
One day, he questioned her choice to bring family members.
He later called her at night, asking her to meet him at a hotel in Juhu for a “sitting”.
Upasana said she would prefer to meet the next day because she didn’t have a car.
However, the director made his intentions clear, asking: “Don’t you know the meaning of a sitting?”
The bold request left the actress shaken. She couldn’t sleep that night but the following morning, she decided to confront him.
Determined, Upasana went to his office and interrupted his meeting.
She confronted him directly, venting her anger in front of everyone.
While the confrontation gave her some relief, it also left her emotionally drained.
For the next week, she locked herself in her room, devastated by the experience.
But thinking of her mother’s sacrifices and her own aspirations, she decided to move forward and remain in the industry.
Upasana shared: “I didn’t leave my room for seven days. I would cry nonstop, wondering what I would tell people.
“But those seven days made me stronger.
“My mother worked hard to support me. I thought about her and decided I will not leave the film industry.”
Upasana also discussed her departure from The Kapil Sharma Show, addressing misconceptions about her relationship with Kapil Sharma.
Contrary to rumours, she clarified there was no conflict between her and the comedian.
She explained that her decision stemmed from creative dissatisfaction.
The actress revealed: “They would cut my punchlines. Places where I knew the audience would laugh, I’d see those lines were removed.
“It felt like torture. Ali Asgar faced the same issue. We were not creatively satisfied.”
Another reason for her departure was contractual obligations.
When the show switched channels, her existing contract with the previous channel prevented her from continuing.
Despite this, Kapil invited her back later, but by then, Upasana Singh had moved on to pursue other opportunities.
