"how will the next generation know him?”
After more than a decade, one of Bangladesh’s most iconic bands, Uccharon, has announced its long-awaited return to the stage.
The legendary group, originally founded by pop music trailblazer Azam Khan in 1972, announced its emotional comeback on June 22, 2025, at Guru Reloaded, an event held in honour of Khan’s death anniversary.
The revival was formally announced by the late singer’s daughter, Aroni Khan.
She revealed the family’s deep-rooted desire to bring her father’s legacy back to life.
Uccharon’s journey began in the early years following the Liberation War.
Azam Khan formed the band with his friends Nilu, Sadek, and Mansoor.
That same year, their televised performances of ‘Eto Shundor Duniay’ and ‘Char Kalema Shakkhi Debe’ turned them into household names.
This marked the arrival of rock-infused pop in the country’s music scene.
Following Azam Khan’s death on June 5, 2011, the band’s activities came to a halt, leaving behind a void in the hearts of fans.
Now, 14 years later, the band has been reassembled with new members – Piaru Khan, Dulal, Kosek, Shipar, and Tuhin.
They took to the stage at the tribute event, reigniting the flame of Uccharon before an emotional crowd.
Aroni Khan, visibly moved during the event, spoke of her long-standing aspiration to carry her father’s music forward.
She questioned: “If no one sings his songs, how will the next generation know him?”
She added that although her dream of performing alongside her father never materialised, she now feels ready to contribute to his musical vision.
Through Uccharon, she gets the opportunity to do that.
The evening was organised by Azam Khan’s nephews, Arman Khan and Adnan Khan.
Both of them expressed their commitment to preserving the late singer’s musical heritage.
While the announcement at Guru Reloaded marked Uccharon’s official re-entry into the public eye, Aroni hinted at bigger plans ahead.
She mentioned an upcoming press conference where the band’s restructured direction and future projects will be revealed.
Aroni Khan said:
“We want to reintroduce his music to the world.”
Fans of the band believe this hints that her own musical debut might soon become part of that journey.
For now, the return of Uccharon stands not just as a revival of a band, but as a heartfelt continuation of a legacy.
