Was ‘Jhoome Jo Pathaan’ copied from Sunny Deol’s Song?

In 1986, Sunny Deol starred in a film titled Sultanat. In the movie, he played Sultan Pirzada. 

Sultanat also featured Sridevi as Princess Yasmeen. The music was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

One of the songs was ‘Jano Janam Janeman‘, picturised on Sunny and Sridevi.

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster Pathaan (2023) took Bollywood by storm when it was released.

Siddharth Anand’s film starred SRK as the titular agent, while Deepika Padukone played Dr Rubina ‘Rubai’ Mohsin.

Vishal-Shekhar created the music for the songs. One of the numbers was ‘Jhoome Jo Pathaan‘.

However, it has now been claimed that SRK’s hit song was not original and that it was copied from Sunny Deol’s song.

A user on X posted clips of ‘Jhoome Jo Pathaan’ and ‘Jano Janam Janeman’.

Both songs appeared to have the same melody and composition.

The user wrote: “Shah Rukh Khan is a big fan of superstar Sunny Deol.

“And after getting beaten by Sunny in Darr (1993), he became a little famous.

“SRK has stolen many scenes from Sunny Deol’s movies and put them in his movies.

“Now see this, he copied the song from Sunny Deol’s film and put it in Pathaan.”

Sunny Deol and Shah Rukh Khan have been known to share some friction between each other.

While shooting for Darr, the pair had differences during a scene when SRK was to stab Sunny with a knife onscreen.

Detailing the argument, Sunny once shared: “We had a little argument during that scene. 

“I was a commando officer in the film, so I’m an expert. How can this boy stab me?

“He can do so if I’m not looking. If he stabs me while I’m looking at him, how am I a commando?

“I was so angry that I put my hands in my pockets and my jeans tore.”

While Sunny and SRK may have disagreed in the past, they were seen burying the hatchet during celebrations for the success of Sunny’s Gadar 2 (2023).

On the work front, SRK will next be seen in King.

Sunny Deol has several upcoming projects including Lahore 1947 and Border 2.

He will also essay Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan saga.

The series will be made over two parts, to be released over the Diwali periods of 2026 and 2027.
