"everyone will have some opinion or reaction on it."
Sanam Saeed has responded to the criticism surrounding Barzakh and clarified her reason for working on such a project.
Barzakh has sparked a storm of criticism for exploring LGBTQ themes.
Despite the star-studded cast and their popularity, the views after the first episode have decreased.
Amid the heated discussions swirling around the show, audiences and critics alike have found themselves polarised.
Many claim that the series has pushed boundaries and challenged cultural norms.
On the other side of the spectrum, director Asim Abbasi, along with a cohort of supporters, have praised the show’s boldness and narrative depth.
However, critics have called for the makers and the actors to be boycotted.
Social media is full of posts that are encouraging the boycott of Fawad Khan, Sanam Saeed and others.
Amid this whirlwind, Sanam Saeed has given her stance on why she chose to work in the series.
She portrays ‘The Mountain Baby’, also known as Scherzade in Barzakh.
In an interview with Maliha Rehman, she shed light on her motivations for joining the project and her reaction to the swirling criticisms.
Recalling her previous collaboration with Asim Abbasi on Cake, Sanam shared that she was motivated by his vision.
The actress claims that the poignant portrayal of loss in Barzakh drew her to this challenging venture.
Delving deeper into the project, Sanam highlighted the interactive nature of Barzakh, emphasising that the series demands active engagement from its viewers.
She underscored the notion that audiences investing in OTT platforms bring a level of commitment and discernment.
Sanam stated: “As it’s available for everyone, everyone will have some opinion or reaction on it.
“Any category that you are choosing to highlight, you are going to have haters or lovers.
“When you believe in something and know your intention, that enables you to have a thick skin.
“I am quite thick-skinned on comments about my work.”
Despite her stance, Sanam Saeed’s statements have further fuelled the fire.
A user questioned: “Thick-skinned or being shameless?
“You know your intentions of being chosen to cast in a serial promoting everything that’s against the moral code and teachings set by Allah.”
Another stated: “Bibi, your intentions are wrong, you’re just climbing the bandwagon and following the Western agenda for money.”
One said: “The content that you choose to do with whatsoever intention doesn’t matter.
“What matters is the impact it can create in the society.
“You are responsible for what you give out and not just what is inside your oblivious heart.
Another commented: “There are certain limits and limits are being crossed in this drama. She is talking as if religion doesn’t matter to her at all.”
One remarked: “I was not expecting this crap from these two leads. Highly disappointed!”
