“Don’t get married abroad. Don't leave Pakistan"
Sanam Jung shared insights into her life in Texas and advised young Pakistani women to not marry outside the country.
Appearing on Shan-e-Suhoor, Sanam discussed the challenges she has faced adjusting to her new life in Houston.
She relocated to the United States in July 2023 due to her husband’s job.
Sanam revealed that despite being reunited with her husband and daughter, she missed the support system she had in Pakistan.
Adjusting to life in Texas meant she had to learn how to handle everything on her own, from cooking to driving.
Host Nida Yasir mentioned that many girls have learned from Sanam’s experiences.
In a light-hearted reply, Sanam cautioned against marrying abroad.
She said: “Don’t get married abroad. Don’t leave Pakistan, stay here you will be peaceful.
“You will miss everyone, your mother and father and even the people you hate.”
Detailing an incident involving a woman who married abroad, Sanam said:
“I’ve heard such terrible stories from girls who got married abroad.
“I met this girl at a salon, who shared that her husband never let her learn to drive, he didn’t allow her to have a driving license or bank account and he once kicked her out of the house with her kid at midnight.
“The girl told me that she was alone in America at night when neighbours helped her with money to arrange the cab.”
She also highlighted the importance of embracing new challenges and opportunities.
Reflecting on her culinary misadventures, Sanam recounted a disastrous attempt at cooking haleem. It resulted in a messy kitchen.
Despite her husband’s encouragement to outsource cooking, Sanam preferred to take on the challenge herself.
Apart from cooking, Sanam also had to relearn driving habits in Houston, where traffic rules are much different than in Karachi.
However, her ability to laugh at herself helped her navigate these challenges with ease.
Sanam’s daughter, Alaya, also faced adjustments, especially with longer school hours in Texas.
Despite missing her grandparents in Karachi, Alaya settled into her new school with the help of supportive teachers.
Sanam Jung ultimately decided to focus on her business ventures. With a new perfume launch and a dedicated team, she found success in entrepreneurship.
She also acknowledged the eternal nature of housework but remained grateful for her husband’s support in navigating their new life together.
