"he won’t do the cameo if they insisted on paying him."

Salman Khan will have an extended cameo in the Telugu film Godfather, but will not be paid for the film as he refused payment.

The film is an official remake of the Malayalam hit Lucifer, which starred Mohanlal.

Godfather will star Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi and is directed by Mohan Raja.

Chiranjeevi had announced Salman’s appearance in the film, tweeting:

“Welcome aboard Godfather, bhai Salman Khan!

“Your entry has energised everyone and the excitement has gone to the next level.

“Sharing screen with you is an absolute joy. Your presence will no doubt give that magical kick to the audience.”

Chiranjeevi was very excited to welcome Salman on board.

When Salman arrived on set, Chiranjeevi presented him with a bouquet of flowers. He also said it was an absolute joy to work with Salman.

It was reported that Salman was offered up to Rs. 20 Crore (£1.9 million) by producers for the extended cameo.

But refused to accept any money for the role due to his friendship with Chiranjeevi.

A source said: “Chiranjeevi’s producers wanted to pay Salman Rs. 15-20 crores for his guest appearance in Godfather. But Salman was adamant.

“He told Chiranjeevi he won’t do the cameo if they insisted on paying him.

“Salman’s words to Chiranjeevi were, ‘If I was to ask you to do a role in my film would you charge for it?’

“The question left Chiranjeevi moved and speechless.”

In the original film Lucifer, director Prithviraj Sukumaran had a cameo. It is believed that Salman will take on that role in Godfather.

Another source close to the production said that Salman will make a huge impact with his cameo.

Reportedly, the filmmakers want to create something special as Godfather features two superstars. Fans will have high expectations from a project that brings Salman and Chiranjeevi together.

The source said: “This plan for Salman’s entry is going to be an interesting one.

“His opening scene will have a medley of all his action scenes from those South films which were later remade in Hindi with Salman.

“So fans can expect iconic action scenes from films like Pokhri and many more, recreated in Godfather.”

Reportedly, Salman will have a 20-minute appearance in the film and will be shooting for a week.
