Actress Rukmini Vasanth has filed a cybercrime complaint after AI-generated images and videos of her were circulated widely online.

The fake content showed her in a bikini with false claims that the images were taken from an actual film shoot she had done.

Rukmini wasted no time in calling out the misuse of AI and released a firm and clear statement on her social media platforms.

“My team and I have come across certain AI-generated images being circulated online claiming to be me.

“I want to state clearly that these images are entirely fake and fabricated.

“The creation and circulation of such manipulated content is deeply irresponsible and a serious violation of privacy.”

She further added that legal steps were already being initiated against those responsible for creating and spreading the manipulated content online.

“We are taking this matter seriously and initiating the necessary legal and cybercrime action against those involved in creating and spreading these images.

“Requesting everyone to refrain from sharing or engaging with such content.”

Rukmini attended a saree collection launch event at Avantra in Bengaluru, where she also addressed the issue directly.

When media personnel asked her about the AI-generated images at the event, she pointed them first to her online statement.

“Do you have an Instagram or Twitter account? I have posted a statement there, so you can read the same.”

When pressed further about whether a police complaint had been filed, she confirmed the step she had taken and expressed her confidence in the system.

“I have just filed the police complaint. So, I have full faith that our cybercrime department will look into it.”

Rukmini then broadened the conversation significantly, making clear that this issue extends far beyond just her own personal experience.

She emphasised that such AI misuse not only targets actresses but poses a genuine and growing threat to women everywhere.

“Not just actresses, this happens to a lot of girls. I don’t think it’s something to be done.

“It starts with actresses, but girls will face problems too if this continues. So, people should think about it.”

She was also careful not to dismiss artificial intelligence entirely, acknowledging that the technology itself carries genuine potential for positive use.

“There are positives to AI, but only if you use it positively, not negatively.”

When asked what she believed would be an appropriate punishment for those who generate such harmful and invasive AI images, Rukmini was measured in her response.

She made clear that determining punishment was not her role and that she was placing her full trust in the authorities to decide.

“That will be decided by cybercrime. That’s really not for us to decide. Now that I am in this situation, I have raised the complaint.

“Now the cybercrime police will look into it.”

The incident has sparked fresh conversation about the urgent need for stronger laws around AI-generated content targeting women in India.

Many have rallied behind Rukmini Vasanth, praising her for speaking out rather than staying silent.
