"The writing you see now? It’s not mine."
The screenwriter Rida Bilal has disowned the ongoing TV drama Behroopia (2025).
She claimed the story airing now no longer represents her original writing or intent.
In a direct and strongly worded post on Instagram, Rida stated that the series has been reshaped without her consent. This allegedly left her work unrecognisable.
She alleged that scenes were altered, characters were changed, and the emotional tone of her script was stripped away entirely.
According to her, the final product no longer carries her voice or vision. She wrote in the caption of her post:
“When your name is on something that no longer reflects your voice, it’s time to speak up.
“Scenes changed, characters twisted, and intentions lost. The writing you see now? It’s not mine.”
Her statement has since sparked widespread conversation among fans and writers across social media.
Many of them expressed concern over how creative control is handled in the Pakistani television industry.
Behroopia features Faysal Quraishi and Madiha Imam in central roles.
It follows the story of Mahnoor, a woman who remarries, only to find that her new husband is hiding something sinister.
Initially pitched as a psychological thriller, the narrative promised to explore deception, betrayal, and social taboos tied to remarriage and divorce.
However, Rida claimed the final output has veered far from the concept she originally developed.
She added: “I have tried to state a lot of things in a dignified manner before, but everyone has their limit, and I have finally reached mine.
“Behroopia no longer reflects my ideas, writing, or the emotion with which it was created for the audiences.
“It, however, does reflect the channel’s lack of ownership, the director’s unfulfilled desires and his knack for writing, which he should practise more often so that the industry can completely go down the drain.”
Rida is known for her work on the dramas, Khudgarz and Do Bol.
She is widely respected for writing complex, emotionally resonant characters.
Her disavowal of Behroopia has raised serious concerns about creative interference in the industry, especially because it’s not an isolated case.
Acclaimed screenwriter Bee Gul once voiced similar frustrations during the airing of her drama Zid.
That series reportedly suffered from producer interference, which she believed weakened its message and contributed to its failure with audiences.
Neither the network behind Behroopia nor its director has currently responded to Rida Bilal’s claims.
