"This is a very emotional project for me."
Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed is finally set to make her Tollywood debut this Durga Puja with the long-delayed film Joto Kando Kolkatatei.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Anik Dutta, the film wrapped production back in 2022, with an initial plan for release in 2023.
However, after nearly two years of delay, the production house, Friends Communication, officially announced its theatrical release.
They revealed the motion poster on July 12, 2025.
The film is a tribute to Satyajit Ray’s detective legacy, referencing the world of Feluda while crafting a fresh narrative of identity and intrigue.
Though not a detective film in the conventional sense, the storyline includes layered puzzles, clever clues, and deep character studies.
Abir Chatterjee plays the male lead, while Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed portrays a young Bangladeshi woman who arrives in Kolkata in search of her family roots.
Speaking about her character, Ahmed said she plays someone deeply inspired by Feluda.
According to her, it’s much like Chatterjee’s role, which creates a strong connection between them.
She explained: “This film pays homage to Feluda in spirit and tone. Both our characters are devoted fans of Ray’s legendary detective.”
Ahmed also shared how unexpectedly the opportunity arrived, saying she received a message from Anik Dutta one day, which led to her audition.
She eventually joined the team and started shooting in September 2023.
The actress called the entire process one of the most fulfilling experiences of her career.
She said: “This is a very emotional project for me. My late father was a huge Feluda admirer and always wanted me to do meaningful work.
“I believe wherever he is now, he’ll be proud to see me in something so close to both his heart and mine.”
Her family, too, is eagerly awaiting the release, as Ahmed believes this film marks a return to truly purposeful storytelling in her acting journey.
She expressed her wish to be in Kolkata during the Durga Puja release, if all logistical plans work out in her favour by then.
In addition to her upcoming big-screen role, Ahmed was recently seen in a major part in the web series Kanagoli. It was released in the start of July 2025.
Directed by Ahmed Jihad, the series stars Shyamol Mawla, Aisha Khan, Abu Hurairah Tanvir, and Lutfor Rahman George in a gripping ensemble cast.
With Joto Kando Kolkatatei, Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed is poised to step into the larger South Asian cinematic space.
