“I wasn’t supposed to reveal this"

Australian cricketer David Warner is set to make his Telugu cinema debut, but not in the way many had expected.

Fans long speculated that his admiration for Allu Arjun would lead to a collaboration.

However, Warner’s first role in Indian cinema will instead be in Robinhood, directed by Venky Kudumula.

The film stars Nithiin and Sreeleela in lead roles, and Warner will make a cameo.

The revelation came at an event in Hyderabad when producer Ravi Shankar let the news slip.

Initially hesitant to confirm anything, he finally admitted:

“David Warner has a brief but exciting role in the film.”

He laughed as he apologised to director Venky Kudumula, saying:

“I wasn’t supposed to reveal this, but they wouldn’t let me off the hook!”

Warner’s love for Indian cinema, particularly Telugu films, has been evident for years.

Throughout the pandemic, he entertained fans by recreating Allu Arjun’s dance moves and dialogues on social media, often with his family.

Given this enthusiasm, rumours swirled about his potential involvement in Pushpa 2: The Rule.

However, those assumptions have now been put to rest with confirmation of his role in Robinhood.

Hints of Warner’s venture into cinema surfaced months ago when Australian media leaked images of him on an Indian film set.

In September 2024, he was spotted filming in Melbourne, dressed in a crisp white shirt.

Reports described a striking scene where he exited a helicopter while holding a lollipop.

He later drew a golden gun in a tense face-off with a group of armed men.

The details of his character in Robinhood remain undisclosed, but reports suggest he might be playing a stylish action-oriented role.

This wouldn’t be his first brush with the Indian entertainment industry.

In April 2024, David Warner worked with acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli on a commercial.

It sparked initial speculation about his possible Bollywood or Tollywood debut.

Fans had been eager to see Warner alongside Allu Arjun, given his vocal appreciation for the actor.

However, the cricketer is now stepping into Telugu cinema through a completely different project.

With Robinhood already generating buzz, Warner’s cameo adds another layer of intrigue to the film.

Whether this marks the beginning of a larger acting career for the Australian batsman remains to be seen.

For now, cricket fans and moviegoers alike will be eagerly waiting to see David Warner on the big screen.
