Are Reports of Arjun Rampal Assaulting a Man "Fake News"?

"Where do people make this news up from? Not assaulted anyone."

Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal has denied claims of physically assaulting a man. It comes as reports say that the man filed a complaint against him to police.

The man, identified as Shobhit, reportedly claimed that Arjun Rampal physically assaulted him by throwing a camera at him.

The incident supposedly took place during the early hours of 9th April 2017, at around 3.30am. The Bollywood actor DJ’ed at a nightclub in Hotel Shangri-La in Delhi.

Media reports suggested that while the actor DJ’ed, a photographer snapped pictures of him.

This supposedly infuriated Arjun Rampal and he grabbed the camera. He then reportedly threw the camera out onto the dancefloor. At this point, reports say the camera hit Shobhit, who danced with a friend, on the head.

However, the actor denied the claims by posting a tweet on Twitter. By dubbing the reports as “fake news”, he said:

Earlier, reports revealed information supposedly revealed by police. They claimed that a police officer said: “Shobhit suffered injury to his head and started bleeding. He then called the police control room (PCR) around 4am and informed us about the incident.”

They also recounted that they took Shobhit to a nearby hospital, where staff treated his wound. The hospital soon discharged Shobhit and now he has filed a complaint against the Bollywood star.

A senior police officer explained more about the incident. He reportedly said:

“He threw a camera flashlight in the crowd hoping that someone will catch it. But it hit a man named Shobhit, aged between 25-30, in his head. He didn’t sustain any grievous injuries but in the medical examination that was carried out, it has been found that it is a lacerated wound.

“He has given a complaint but we are legally examining it. As of now, no FIR has been registered against the actor.”

Reports also say that after the alleged assault happened, Arjun Rampal left the club.

But now with the actor denying the claims, it seems this story isn’t as straightforward as first believed.
