Bangladeshi actress and director Afsana Mimi has achieved another significant milestone in her career with her film Red Lights Blue Angels.

It has won the prestigious Best Project Award at the 7th Haniff-Hanoi International Film Festival in Vietnam.

The award was presented during the festival’s closing ceremony on November 11, 2024, held at the historic Ho Guom Theatre.

Competing against seven other international entries in the Film Project Market category, Mimi’s project distinguished itself through its compelling storytelling and unique vision.

The screenplay, co-written with producer Tanveer Hossain, captivated the judges with its blend of emotional depth and innovative concepts, earning the top prize.

This recognition not only highlights the quality of the film but also adds to Afsana Mimi’s significant contributions to the world of cinema.

Red Lights Blue Angels has also previously made waves in the film festival circuit.

In early 2024, it received acclaim at the Dhaka International Film Festival, standing in first place in the West Meets East Screenplay Lab segment.

These honours reflect the project’s strong narrative and artistic vision.

Afsana Mimi’s career spans over three decades, showcasing her versatility as both an actress and a director.

She began her artistic journey in 1986 with stage plays, making her debut in a theatre group before transitioning to television.

Her first notable television role came in the drama Zero Point, directed by the late Abdullah Al-Mamun.

In the 1990s, she gained widespread recognition through her performances in Humayun Ahmed’s iconic series Kothao Keu Nei.

It further solidified her status as a household name in Bangladesh.

Her big screen debut followed in 1992 with Azizur Rahman’s film Dil, further broadening her reach as an actress.

In addition to her acting accolades, Mimi has made significant strides as a director.

Her recent work, Off the Mark, was released on the streaming platform iScreen.

Most of the film was shot in Bagerhat and introduced Arham as Deepu, marking his debut in the OTT space.

The cast includes a talented ensemble featuring Mostafizur Noor Imran, Sharmin Sultana Shormi, and Khalid Hasan Rumi, among others.

Afsana Mimi continues to inspire many within the Bangladeshi entertainment industry.
