Bangladesh rapper SHEZAN, who rose to fame with the anthem ‘Kotha Ko’, has taken a step into the world of film.

His latest track, ‘Ei Shohor Swarthopor’, will feature in the upcoming movie Priyo Maloti, starring Mehazabien Chowdhury.

Collaborating with singer Ahmed Hasan Sunny, SHEZAN delivers a song that exposes the harsh realities faced by Dhaka’s lower-middle class.

The song, co-written by SHEZAN and Sunny, delves into themes of struggle and inequality with poignant lines like:

“People float through their days of sorrow/This city is ruthless and unforgiving.”

SHEZAN’s rap sections, paired with Sunny’s emotive vocals, amplify the track’s raw and powerful message.

SHEZAN also handled the composition and production, ensuring the song’s thematic depth aligns seamlessly with the film’s narrative.

‘Ei Shohor Swarthopor’ was released on Chorki’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

It is garnering positive feedback from fans and critics alike.

A user said: “Accurate information about society in this song.”

Another wrote: “Awesome song.”

Speaking about the song, Sunny said: “This city is incredibly selfish. It favours only the wealthy.

“Through the song, we’ve tried to capture the frustration and pain of those left behind.”

Directed by Shankha Dasgupta, Priyo Maloti tells the story of Maloti Rani Das.

She is a resilient lower-middle-class woman whose life is thrown into turmoil by a sudden fire in a marketplace.

Inspired by real events, it portrays Maloti’s journey from enjoying small joys with her husband, Palash Kumar, to grappling with the devastating aftermath.

Shankha Dasgupta, making his directorial debut, uses the film to challenge the status quo.

By highlighting the systemic dehumanisation faced by people like Maloti, he underscores the need to value human existence beyond forms and reports.

The film has already earned critical acclaim on the international stage.

It was selected at the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) and the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

While deeply rooted in Dhaka’s socio-political landscape, its universal themes of resilience and injustice have resonated with audiences worldwide.

Priyo Maloti will be released in cinemas on December 20, 2024.

The trailer, revealed on December 13, 2024, shows glimpses of Maloti’s moments of love, despair, and survival against a backdrop of societal chaos.

SHEZAN and Ahmed Hasan Sunny’s collaboration on ‘Ei Shohor Swarthopor’ brings a compelling voice to the film’s critique of inequality.
