"She also flatters Indian actors for money."
Mahira Khan was labelled “shameless” by a Pakistani senator for lauding Shah Rukh Khan.
The actress starred alongside SRK in the 2017 film Raees and she impressed fans with her performance as well as her chemistry with Shah Rukh.
Over the years, Mahira Khan has expressed her admiration for the Bollywood powerhouse in public.
However, Senator Dr Afnan Ullah Khan, a top PMLN politician, has taken a harsh stance against the Pakistani actress.
He criticised Mahira in a tweet written in Urdu, writing:
“Mahira Khan has mental health problems and Anwar Maqsood is drunk in this part of life.
“Both these shameless characters are cursed by the public.
“Books can be written on Mahira Khan’s character. She also flatters Indian actors for money.
“And Anwar Maqsood is a cursed character full of prejudice.”
The Bol actress recently addressed a gathering organised by playwright, television personality and comedian Anwar Maqsood about her experiences working in Bollywood.
Mahira Khan said: “Shah Rukh Khan was the hero of my time and I was in love with him and used to think about working with him.
“It was a dream of mine that I never knew would be completed. The fact that I got to it was amazing.”
During the interaction, Mahira Khan revealed that in the early stages of her acting career, she was urged to have plastic surgery on her nose.
The actress further added: “When I joined the industry, many people advised me to fix my nose, and I said, ‘No, if I cut my nose off, then what’s left?’
“But I’m being serious once Shah Rukh Khan and I were doing a scene and he said, ‘Look, look, this is the war of noses!’”
When Anwar asked the actress about the political party that she supports in Pakistan, she did not say anything immediately.
She later alluded to Imran Khan’s PTI Party.
This is not the first time a Pakistani celebrity has come under attack from trolls for praising Indian cinema stars.
Anoushey Ashraf, a Pakistani VJ, was ridiculed in January 2023 for referring to Shah Rukh as a “global superstar” and declaring that she would “forever” be a fan.
In response to Ashraf’s Instagram post, several said that she merely made the comment to “be noticed” by Shah Rukh Khan.
