"I fell ill and I was on severe painkillers"
Janhvi Kapoor’s upcoming survival thriller Mili is all set to release on November 4, 2022.
Ahead of its release, the actress revealed that filming took a toll on her physical and mental health.
Said to be based on true events, Janhvi plays Mili Naudiyal, a 24-year-old nursing graduate who gets trapped inside a freezer and has to fight to stay alive.
Mili is a Hindi remake of the 2019 Malayalam hit film Helen.
Janhvi has now opened up about what filming was like and how it affected her.
She explained that a special freezer was built by the film’s team, where they shot for 20 days at temperatures of -15°C.
Recalling her experience, Janhvi said:
“I remember it (film) taking a genuine toll on my mental health because I would come back home after wrapping up the shoot and I would go to sleep and dream that I was still in the freezer.
“I fell ill and I was on severe painkillers for two-three days and even the director was unwell.”
Revealing that she would spend 15 hours a day in the freezer, Janhvi continued:
“If you spend 15 hours of your day in a freezer in a closed environment crying for the majority of the day, sometimes with a rat that keeps nibbling your fingers, it is not glamorous for sure.”
For the role, she also revealed that she had to gain 7.5 kg.
Mili marks Janhvi’s first professional collaboration with her father Boney Kapoor, who has produced the film.
The father and daughter duo have been promoting their upcoming film and previously, Boney defended Janhvi over the constant criticism she faces.
At the trailer launch, Boney said:
“She also had a journey which was brilliant, she started as a child star but the North Indians saw her after she did more than 200 films in the South.”
Boney was also asked about his reaction to the upcoming film and Janhvi’s performance.
The film producer said: “She’s done phenomenally well in this film and not only this film but she’s grown from film to film.
“I think this film has brought her closer to her peak.
“Not that this would be the end, I’m sure she will outgrow the kind of burden that she carries being Sri’s (Sridevi) daughter.”
“She is going to carve her own niche.
“She has begun very well by playing various kinds of characters starting with Dhadak, then Gunjan, then the short film she did.
Mili also stars Sunny Kaushal and Manoj Pahwa.
It is directed by Mathukutty Xavier, who also directed Helen.
The film is set to hit theatre screens on November 4, 2022.
