"You too should file a complaint."

A deepfake video purported to show Ranveer Singh has circulated online.

The video shows the star apparently criticising Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The material surfaced as the Indian General Elections approach.

According to the 42-second clip, Ranveer Singh allegedly says:

“This is Modi ji’s purpose. He intended to celebrate our sad lives, our fear, our unemployment and inflation.

“Because our India is now heading towards a time of injustice at such a pace.

“So we should never stop demanding our development and justice – this is why we must think and vote.”

In the clip, Ranveer Singh wore traditional robes with a garland around his neck.

Netizens were quick to condemn the video as they urged Ranveer to take action.

One user commented: “Congress is using your deepfake video.

“Just like the way Aamir Khan has filed a complaint against them, you too should file a complaint.”

Another added: “@RanveerOfficial should take proper action for this ASAP.”

A third asked: “Why does Congress love fake things?”

It was also confirmed that the video is digitally altered with a synthetic voice clone.

The original video is part of an interview Ranveer gave to Asian News International (ANI).

He praised Mr Modi and said the latter was celebrating India’s cultural heritage.

This incident is not an isolated one. A similar deepfake video showing Aamir Khan circulated online.

In the clip, Aamir was shown to support the Congress party.

Aamir’s team responded to the clip and denied that the video was genuine.

They said: “We are alarmed by the recent viral video alleging that Aamir Khan is promoting a particular political party.

“He would like to clarify that this is a fake video and totally untrue.

“He has reported the matter to various authorities related to this issue, including filing an FIR with the Cyber Crime Cell of the Mumbai Police.

“We want to clarify that Mr Aamir Khan has never endorsed any political party throughout his 35-year career.”

“He has dedicated his efforts to raising public awareness through Election Commission public awareness campaigns for many past elections.

“Mr Khan would like to urge all Indians to come out and vote and be an active part of our electoral process.”

On the work front, Ranveer Singh was last seen in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023).

He will next star in Singham Again.
