Actress Payal Ghosh has reportedly issued an “unconditional apology” to Richa Chadha before the Bombay High Court.

Richa Chadha filed a defamation lawsuit against Payal. This came after Payal accused filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of sexual assault in September 2020.

She shared a detailed account of the alleged incident against the filmmaker and had mentioned the names of three actresses.

These included Richa Chadha, Huma Qureshi and Mahie Gill. In her allegations, Payal stated that these actresses would offer sexual favours to Anurag.

Two days after Payal’s accusations, Richa released a statement through her lawyer. It read:

“Our Client ‘Ms. Richa Chadha’, condemns the act of her name being unnecessarily and falsely dragged in a derogatory manner into controversies and allegations being recently raised by third parties.

“Though our Client believes that genuinely wronged women should get justice at all costs, there are legislations that are intended to ensure that women have an equal standing in their workplace and to ensure that they have a cordial workplace in which their dignity and self-respect is protected.”

As a result of this, Richa sent Payal a legal notice. She demanded an apology, the retraction of her public statement and damages.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, 14 October 2020, Richa tweeted: “Done.”

A report by Live Law who delivered an update from the Bombay High Court, stated Payal issued an:

“unconditional apology to Richa Chadha before the Bombay High Court in the form of an undertaking and suit is disposed of.”

However, the lawsuit against ABN Telugu and Kamaal R Khan is being kept open.

The report added that they have been “granted four weeks” to reply to the allegations.

Kamaal R Khan’s lawyer said he “will not many any public comments against Richa on the basis of defamatory remarks and adds that he will make a public statement to that effect.”

The decision came after a public dispute between Richa Chadha and Payal Ghosh.

Richa shared evidence which showed Payal had agreed to apologise to her. However, this was later denied by Payal.

Members of the film fraternity congratulated Richa for her win.

Taking to Twitter, actress Taapsee Pannu applauded Richa Chadha for her spirit. She wrote:

“Unconditional apology with certain conditions apparently. Ab kya bole behen … but what a fight you put up.”

Actress Sawar Bhasker tweeted: “Well done @RichaChadha.”
