The gun went off accidentally, killing him
A tragic incident unfolded in Swat’s Saidu Sharif area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when a young TikToker shot himself while filming a video.
Abu Bakar was reportedly making content for TikTok when the tragedy unfolded.
He was reportedly filming a stunt with a pistol when the firearm accidentally went off.
Police quickly arrived at the scene, transporting the young man’s body to Central Hospital Saidu Sharif.
An investigation is underway, with authorities collecting evidence and registering an FIR.
This incident is another grim reminder of the risks involved when creating social media content with firearms.
In September 2024, a young man named Ahmed from Lahore lost his life in a similar way.
Ahmed succumbed to injuries after being shot in the eye while filming a video outside his home.
CCTV footage led to the arrest of an individual named Umair, who claimed the shooting was unintentional.
Police investigations revealed that the gun accidentally discharged, and the shooter, Umair, was a close friend of the victim.
Similarly, in 2021, Hamidullah, a 19-year-old TikToker from Kabal tehsil, lost his life in a similar accident.
Hamidullah had been filming a staged suicide video with a loaded pistol, unaware of the danger.
The weapon accidentally fired when he placed it near his temple, leading to his untimely death.
His friends, who were present, later shared that the video was meant to include tragic background music, adding a sombreness to it.
In another case in 2020, 17-year-old Tanveer from Karachi died while filming himself holding his father’s pistol.
The gun went off accidentally, killing him and highlighting the dangers of such reckless acts.
These recurring tragedies underscore the risks associated with using firearms while creating social media content.
The allure of unique and dramatic videos has increasingly led individuals, particularly teenagers, to take unnecessary risks.
Authorities and safety advocates continue to warn against the misuse of weapons, emphasising the importance of education.
Social media users are demanding strict regulations to prevent such devastating incidents.
Some have even gone as far as to suggest banning TikTok once and for all.
A user wrote:
“These trends on TikTok are getting worse and worse… Astaghfirullah!”
Another commented: “Ban this cancer already!”
These stories serve as a sobering reminder of the dangers of combining unsafe practices with the pursuit of social media fame.
