A 12-year-old housemaid in Rawalpindi, brutally tortured by her employers, succumbed to her injuries on February 12, 2025.

The child, identified as Iqra, was rushed to Holy Family Hospital in critical condition.

She suffered severe physical abuse at the hands of a husband and wife who had employed her as a domestic worker.

Police confirmed that Iqra was brought to the hospital from the Asghar Mall Scheme area.

A woman who taught the Quran to the employers’ children had taken her to the hospital after noticing her worsening condition.

Doctors at the hospital discovered multiple signs of violence on her body and immediately informed law enforcement.

Despite efforts to save her, the girl succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Following her death, police arrested the employers and registered a case under multiple sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

This includes charges related to attempted murder.

Investigators revealed that the child had endured continuous abuse for nearly 12 days before her condition deteriorated to the point of no return.

Despite witnessing her suffering, her employers failed to seek medical help until it was too late.

Iqra’s mother was in a state of mourning, observing Iddat after the recent death of her husband.

The child had been working as a housemaid for some time, unaware that the very people who hired her would turn into her tormentors.

Chairperson of the Child Protection Bureau, Sarah Ahmed, condemned the incident, calling it deeply disturbing.

She stated that the signs of prolonged violence on the girl’s body indicated that the abuse had been systematic and relentless.

Ahmed further emphasised the urgent need for stronger legal protections for child domestic workers to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi’s Chief Police Officer, Khalid Hamdani, directed authorities to ensure swift legal action against the suspects.

This case highlights the alarming reality of child domestic labour in Pakistan, where minors often face exploitation, violence, and neglect.

Iqra’s tragic death has once again reignited calls for justice.

The public demands that the perpetrators face the full force of the law.

A social media user said: “This is straight-up murder! Not just attempted.”

One commented: “And they themselves have children! Shame on them. They should be hanged.”

Another wrote: “First of all, strict action should be taken against those responsible for allowing underage child labour across the country.”
