Tanveer had come into contact with the electrified donation box.

A Pakistani man died after being electrocuted by a metal charity donation box outside a mosque in Pattoki.

The box had been deliberately wired with electricity to deter thieves.

The incident, which occurred on February 12, 2025, has sparked outrage.

It has raised serious concerns about the extreme security measures taken by mosque administrations in the area.

Local police confirmed that 25-year-old Tanveer Akhtar Jan was found dead near the entrance of the mosque,

The mosque is located close to a graveyard in Chak No. 13, Jod Singh Wala village.

Upon receiving the report, authorities arrived at the scene and took the body into custody.

Initial investigations suggested that Tanveer had come into contact with the electrified donation box.

Following the incident, a case was registered against six members of the mosque committee under Section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Those named in the complaint included Muhammad Aslam, Haji Sabir, Muhammad Ashraf, Muhammad Asghar, Muzammil Hussain, and Muhammad Yasir.

Despite the charges, Tanveer’s family requested that no legal action be taken and declined to allow a post-mortem examination.

However, law enforcement proceeded with an investigation based on their initial complaint.

A mosque representative later admitted that the administration had intentionally electrified the donation box.

He cited repeated thefts as the reason for the drastic measure.

According to him, drug addicts and petty thieves frequently targeted the charity boxes, prompting mosque officials to implement what they considered a deterrent.

However, this method has now come under heavy criticism for putting lives at risk.

Further inquiries revealed that this was not an isolated case.

Pattoki authorities reported that multiple mosques and madrasas in the village had been using similar tactics.

These extreme precautions meant to safeguard charitable donations have instead created a hazardous situation for unsuspecting individuals.

The incident has fuelled a heated debate over the ethics and legality of such security measures.

Critics argue that the mosque’s administration acted negligently, endangering the public rather than implementing safer alternatives.

Others have condemned the practice as inhumane, calling for accountability and stricter regulations to prevent similar tragedies.

Local police have assured that further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of the practice in the area.

Authorities are now working to ensure that mosques adhere to legal security measures instead of taking such disastrous actions into their own hands.
