"The owner of the house Rana Awais and his wife Sonia abused me"
A seven-year-old Pakistani child maid was tortured and physically abused by her two owners. The girl worked at their house in Nisar Colony, Faisalabad.
This is not the first time where a child maid has been abused by her employer.
Police officers on patrol found the girl on Saturday, June 8, 2019, by the side of a road in Samanabad after she was able to escape her tormentors’ house.
When she was asked what happened, she explained her ordeal at the hands of her owners.
She alleged that she was abused by a man named Rana Awais and his wife Sonia. They had hired the girl to work as a housemaid for them.
The young girl said: “The owner of the house Rana Awais and his wife Sonia abused me but somehow, I managed to escape from their detention.”
The girl was taken to a hospital in order for medical tests to be conducted.
A medical examination revealed she had sustained severe injuries all over her body. Police officers stated that the injuries signalled that she had been tortured while working for Awais.
The suspects burnt the ears, arms and legs of the child maid. They also fractured some of her fingers.
Police officers informed the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) and handed over the girl to them.
CPWB Officer Robina Iqbal confirmed that the police have registered a case based on the girl’s complaint.
The case was registered under Section 34-2004 of the Punjab Destitute and Neglected Children Act.
She said:
“The accused who were involved in the detention of the child maid and alleged physical assault will be challenged in the court of law.”
Samanabad police added that they have collected DNA samples in order to conduct forensic tests. They also said that raids were being carried out in order to arrest the accused.
In a similar incident, a 10-year-old Pakistani child maid was tortured by the woman who hired her.
Hadia Aslam’s mother sent her to work at Zarqa Shahid‘s house in Lahore.
Reportedly, Shahid would torture the victim so severely that the neighbours could hear the girl’s screams.
A concerned neighbour reported the incident to the CPWB. Representatives and police officers arrived at the house and recovered the child maid.
CPWB Chairperson Sarah Ahmad confirmed that Shahid was arrested.
CPWB official Shafiq Ratyal said Hadia was undergoing legal procedures. Following the formalities, they took the child into custody.
