The first Indian model to be a part of one of their campaigns.
Neelam Gill walked in the most anticipated show at London Fashion Week for Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection.
The model, who is a veteran of Burberry, wore a high-slit long leather skirt paired with a khaki-coloured top, a faded leather jacket and a shaggy look on the shoulder pads.
This was styled with brown and white heels, a slick back ponytail, and a simple makeup look, accentuating her natural beauty and the outfit’s silhouettes.
The collection by English designer Daniel Lee focused on reinventing the iconic trench coat with a streetwear edge.
It took place in the foyer of the National Theatre, where the catwalk went through some of the nation’s most treasured celebrities.
Lee produced what has been said to be his strongest collection to date, with bold Burberry handwriting, reinventing the brand’s appeal and making it more accessible.
Gill, originally from Coventry, first modelled for Burberry at the age of 19 in 2014.
She was meant to go to university that year but ended up modelling full-time.
Although she was first scouted at the age of 14, her parents encouraged her to continue her studies and model before university.
She landed this as her first job and became the first Indian model to be a part of one of their campaigns.
Appearances followed this in major fashion editorials, like Vogue Italia and features on Burberry’s international campaigns that have been plastered worldwide.
The model said: “The first time I saw the campaign, I went with my best friend to the Knightsbridge store, the Bond Street store and the flagship on Regent Street.
“We took so many pictures of it because I wanted to treasure it forever. It’s so surreal.
“Hopefully, now that I’ve started working and doing really well, there will be more Indian models.
“But I just do as much as I can to raise awareness about diversity in the industry.”
“And that’s why I’m so proud to get any job.
“It’s more of an achievement for me, I think, being the first Indian model to work for so many big brands.”
Neelam Gill stated that she feels the pressure of being the first Indian-origin model but it “motivates me to work harder… I don’t think people realise what I have to go through, how much harder it is to get modelling jobs”.
Despite this extra challenge, the model has been very busy during the fashion month.
In New York, she also walked for designers 3.1 Phillip Lim and Grace Ling, as well as being the face of Givenchy’s FW24 campaign.
