"Neelam Gill doing it for all us brown girlies."
South Asians were left feeling proud as Neelam Gill represented the community at the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
The famous fashion event returned for the first time since 2018.
In 2023, Victoria’s Secret reimagined the show as a documentary that featured the talents of designers from across the globe.
The 2024 event marked a return to a traditional catwalk format.
Naturally, there were plenty of elaborate costumes and dramatic feathered wings on show at the New York event.
Among the models was Neelam Gill, who stunned in a shimmery white bra and underwear.

She added a touch of extravagance with strappy heels and diamond cuff earrings.
The standout piece was Neelam’s holographic angel wings, a contemporary twist on the feathered wings that Victoria’s Secret models commonly wear on the catwalk.
Neelam’s dark tresses were styled into a sleek high ponytail.
Her makeup featured warm brown tones and pops of highlighter, enhancing her natural beauty and complimenting her ensemble.
Neelam’s ramp walk was a proud one for South Asians around the world, who were proud to see brown representation on such a big stage.
On Instagram, Vogue India wrote: “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is back and this time with Indian representation, inclusivity and more.”
Others shared clips of themselves watching the fashion event and expressing their pride at seeing Neelam.
One said: “Neelam Gill doing it for all us brown girlies.”
Another applauded:
“What a pleasant surprise Neelam Gill. She only went and did it.”
Indian internet personality Orhan ‘Orry’ Awatramani posted on his Instagram Story:
“My girl. Stepping on necks.”

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Week saw fan favourites Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel, Joan Smalls and Doutzen Kroes joined by VS newcomers including Vittoria Ceretti, Paloma Elsesser and Ashley Graham.
Catwalk legends Carla Bruni and Tyra Banks were also at the event.
Gigi and Bella Hadid were given the prestigious honour of opening and closing the show.
Modelling legend Kate Moss also made her Victoria’s Secret debut.
Viewers were able to watch the show live and shop for the looks as they debuted on the runway, with the pieces made available for purchase in the Amazon Fashion store.

For Neelam Gill, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Week may be the biggest moment in her modelling career.
The Coventry-born model did very well at school and planned to go to university to study psychology. She also had ambitions to be a fashion journalist.
But she ended up going into modelling. At the age of 14, she signed with NEXT Model Management.
Neelam made her catwalk debut for Burberry’s fashion show during London Fashion Week.
She made history in 2014 when she became the first Indian-heritage model featured in a Burberry campaign.
Neelam has also walked the ramp for Dior and even appeared at Kanye West’s fashion show.
