"A Malayali girl walking the Victoria's Secret runway"

Ravleen Varghese made her debut at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Los Angeles, bringing attention to her journey from a village in Kerala to the international fashion industry.

The US Indian model walked the iconic runway on October 18, marking a significant milestone in her modelling career.

The 25-year-old walked the iconic ramp twice.

First, she turned heads in a lacy pink lingerie set.

Ravleen followed up with a stunning black-and-white look alongside Luíza Perote and Malika El Maslouhi.

On social media, fans praised her look and were proud to see Indian representation on a major stage.

One person commented: “A Malayali girl walking the Victoria’s Secret runway… oh we’re SO proud.”

Another said: “Indian women really are the best.”

Others described Ravleen’s look as “body goals”.

Before walking the ramp, Ravleen described the massive scale of the event:

“It was almost like a maze backstage, with huge catering rooms, dressing rooms and photo studios all connected by tiny hallways.

“I’ve lost count of how many times I got lost trying to find my way to the restroom!”

On her pre-show routine, she said:

“I wake up, blast my favourite Malayalam tracks, and dance through my skincare routine. I always show up to work in an outfit that makes me feel bold and confident.”

Ravleen Varghese is originally from Kodumon, a village in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district, and has steadily built a portfolio spanning luxury fashion, beauty and international campaigns.

Represented by Next Management, she has worked with brands including Dior, Loewe, Out House, Benefit, Ounass, Marie Claire and Pomellato.

On how she got into modelling, Ravleen revealed she was scouted through Instagram during her college days. But she didn’t take it seriously because she didn’t think she could make a place for herself in the space.

She explained: “I think a part of me didn’t believe I could exist in that space, so I turned down quite a few agencies in the beginning.

“It wasn’t until I met the right people, an agency that really saw the hidden passion and talent in me, that something shifted.”

“I’ve had countless learning curves throughout the journey, and modelling has become less about fitting into something and more about discovering parts of myself I didn’t know were there.”

When it came to South Asian representation, Neelam Gill returned for her third walk while Elina Gunawardena also made her debut.

Ravleen Varghese’s Victoria’s Secret appearance places her among the models who have walked one of the fashion industry’s most recognisable runways, potentially introducing her to a wider international audience.

Her debut also adds to the visibility of Indian talent at major international fashion events, giving audiences another name to watch in the modelling industry.
