PTI say he is speaking "shamelessly and brazenly".
On February 9, 2024, Nawaz Sharif, the ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan, claimed victory in the national elections.
He claimed his political party had secured the highest position in the vote and would explore the possibility of creating a coalition administration.
Although Mr Sharif did not reveal the precise number of seats his party had secured, the vote tally was still ongoing for the remaining few of the 265 seats contested in the elections.
The most recent figures released by the election commission indicated that his party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), had secured 61 seats, falling considerably short of the 133-seat threshold required to pursue the formation of a government.
Meanwhile, independent candidates had secured approximately 91.
Nawaz Sharif acknowledged that his party lacks the requisite seats on its own, but he stated that his deputies would convene with leaders from other parties later in the day.
This includes a meeting with former president Asif Ali Zardari of the Pakistan Peoples Party, with whom discussions will be held regarding the formation of a coalition government.
On the other hand, candidates loyal to the imprisoned Imran Khan are ahead.
Mr Khan’s PTI party responded to Mr Sharif’s claims that his PML-N party have won the largest number of seats in the general election.
PTI say he is speaking “shamelessly and brazenly”.
In a post on X, PTI said the seats shown to have been won by the PML-N were “stolen and rigged”.
The posts added that Sharif was “brazenly trying to steal the election” and that it would not be tolerated.
Results of the vote began coming in after a delay of nearly 10 hours.
The Election Committee of Pakistan (ECP) blamed it on the suspension of phone and internet services by the government.
However, voters alleged it was due to ballot rigging.
Although he claimed victory, Nawaz Sharif lost his Mansehra constituency seat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
While Mr Sharif secured 80,382 votes, the PTI-backed independent candidate Shahzada Mohammad Gustasif Khan claimed victory with 105,249 votes, the report added.
However, Mr Sharif will still enter parliament as an MP, having won another seat he contested in Lahore.
Under Pakistan’s election rules, individuals can contest multiple seats and elect the one they want to represent if they win in more than one.
Just hours after Nawaz Sharif claimed victory, PTI shared an AI-generated video of Imran to claim victory.
