"We boycott such individuals from our society"
Pakistani actor, Muneeb Butt, has revealed he is taking on a new controversial role as a transgender character in an upcoming TV series.
Butt informed the media that the six-episode limited series is “breaking stereotypes” by spotlighting social issues, in contrast to many Pakistani shows that are focused on marriage and the family.
On Sunday, December 25, 2022, he posted pictures from the upcoming drama’s set to Instagram. The caption read:
“[I] am really excited to announce that I am playing a very unique character of the first trans assistant commissioner in my upcoming project.
“Something that breaks stereotypes in our society.”
Butt gave the reporters some details regarding the drama and his character:
“It’s a six to seven-episode series, more like what you see on Netflix or Amazon for the OTT platforms.
“It’s a USAID series in which each episode will be based on a different story and [all of them] are excellent.
“It highlights all basic, social issues such as the stereotypes in our society, the way things are done and it breaks taboos. My character is of a guy who by birth is a hermaphrodite.”
“This has a beautiful message — we boycott such individuals from our society completely and they are left with a few options to work; becoming a sex worker, a dancer or begging at signals.
“So for them, it’s a message that if you study, work hard and don’t care about what people say then you too can achieve whatever you want.”
According to Butt, the drama depicts the hardships, travels, and resistance of his character to society.
With the help of his family, he pursues his studies, finally choosing CSS and rising to the position of assistant commissioner.
Muneeb talked about his experience and how he’s been “anxiously waiting to reveal the character” he’ll be portraying shortly.
Butt elaborated on his part in the drama, saying that because he had to step outside of his comfort zone, it was the “most challenging role” he had ever played.
Muneeb ended his message by praising co-star Saba Qamar and adding:
“Hope you enjoy the journey with me. Will be looking forward to your feedback.”
The Pakistani actor wore a three-piece, black dress shoes with a grey tailored suit for the photo.
Muneeb Butt had a macho appearance because of his slick-back hair and metal-framed glasses.
Idream Entertainment is working on a “very special project” for ARY Digital, according to Saba Qamar, who revealed this in a separate Instagram post.
