“This wasn’t just ignorance, it was intentional disrespect."
A man has come under fire after a viral video showed him eating chicken inside Govinda’s, a well-known vegetarian restaurant operated by ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) in London.
The man entered the restaurant and asked staff whether they served meat.
When told that only vegetarian food was available, he pulled out a box of KFC and began eating it on the front counter as the two servers looked at him with shock.
Footage from the incident shows him offering pieces of chicken to customers and staff despite repeated requests to stop.
The situation escalated to the point where security was called. He was later removed from the restaurant.
The video has since gone viral, sparking widespread outrage across social media. Many users slammed the man’s behaviour as deliberate provocation and an affront to the restaurant’s spiritual ethos.
One wrote: “This wasn’t just ignorance, it was intentional disrespect.”
Another added: “Shameful act, he intentionally ate chicken to offend or trigger vegans. He got lucky to get away without anyone slapping him.”
Several commenters questioned whether the act amounted to hate speech or religious intolerance, as one said:
“The intentional violation of a cultural and religious norm in this manner is a clear demonstration of intolerance that cannot be tolerated in any civilised society.”
Another posted: “Hope the complaint was filed in the local police station.
“Don’t know if he can be arrested for this or not but this is pure hate towards Hindus and he is fully aware that Hindus won’t retaliate, so dared to do such a horrendous thing.”
Viewers of the video noted what they believed were signs of a premeditated stunt.
According to multiple users, the man was accompanied by a cameraman and appeared to be filming content specifically to provoke.
A comment read: “It was perfectly planned. He even came in with a cameraman.
“Let’s see if the London Police take any action against them.”
Some questioned whether ISKCON and authorities had been too restrained in their response.
“Has ISKCON become too gentle? Bhakti bhav is taught, but where are Krishna and Arjun’s lessons on defending dharma? Would another peaceful religion not have set a stronger precedent?”
Horrendous. ??
This African-British youth entered into ISKCON’s Govinda restaurant – knowingly that it’s pure Veg restaurant – asked if there’s meat available, then pulled out his KFC box and not only ate chicken (chewed like a ?), but also offered others working/eating in… pic.twitter.com/TtPJz9Jg7m

ISKCON, founded in 1966 and rooted in the Hindu tradition Gaudiya Vaishnavism, operates several vegetarian and vegan eateries around the world. The consumption of meat, fish, or eggs is strictly prohibited within the movement.
The incident has reignited debate about cultural sensitivity, the limits of freedom of expression, and respect for religious spaces in a multicultural society.
