“MyLahore is one of the best Asian family restaurants"
Two of Pakistan’s biggest cricketing stars, Shahid Afridi and Shaheen Shah Afridi, visited MyLahore in Blackburn, delighting diners and staff alike.
The duo, who have broken records in different eras of the sport, dined at MyLahore in Whitebirk, a branch housed in one of Blackburn’s oldest buildings.
The site opened in 2022 after a careful restoration of a historic former pub, and now attracts guests from across Lancashire and beyond.
Shahid is in the UK for the World Championship of Legends tournament, which sees former stars from Pakistan, India, England, Australia, South Africa, and the West Indies compete across venues including Edgbaston, Headingley, Northampton and Leicester.
He was joined by his son-in-law, 25-year-old left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, who last played in England in May 2024 during Pakistan’s Twenty20 series against England.
Shaheen will not feature in this year’s edition of The Hundred, with his last appearance coming in 2023 for Welsh Fire.
Both cricket stars were joined during their visit by Lord Wajid Khan of Burnley.
Shahid was full of praise for MyLahore, describing the experience as heart-warming and the food as outstanding.
He said: “I absolutely loved the Nihari; rich, authentic, and full of flavour.
“MyLahore is one of the best Asian family restaurants I’ve been to. It feels like home.”
Photos from the evening show Shahid posing for selfies, chatting with families and greeting guests throughout the restaurant.
A spokesperson for MyLahore described the evening as a memorable occasion for the community.
They said:
“The restaurant was packed with joy, laughter, and community spirit, a true celebration of food, family, and fandom.”
“It was a proud moment for Blackburn and another milestone in MyLahore’s journey as a beloved destination for British Asian dining.”
The visit from the high-profile cricketers has drawn significant attention from local fans, further cementing MyLahore’s status as a go-to venue for good food and big names.
Their appearance comes amid a rise in interest in heritage cricket tournaments, as former stars continue to draw crowds with their enduring popularity and legacy.
Shaheen Shah Afridi previously visited Blackburn in 2024, going to the Heavenly Desserts restaurant in Sudell Cross.
