Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has now confirmed that his eldest daughter will get married to fast bowler Shaheen Afridi.

The reports had been ongoing for some time, but on May 22, 2021, Shahid confirmed the news.

He openly said that Shaheen will become his son-in-law.

In an interview, Shahid was asked about his daughter Aqsa Afridi’s engagement.

He replied, saying that the rising cricket star will be his son-in-law.

Shahid also revealed that Shaheen had no relationship with his daughter prior to the engagement.

He said: “We Afridis have eight tribes, Shaheen and we belong to different tribes.”

He went on to say for the past two years, Shaheen’s parents expressed a strong desire for both families to form a partnership through marriage.

Shahid Afridi had previously said that his family had accepted the wedding proposal.

In a tweet, he had said: “Shaheen’s family approached my family for my daughter.

“Both families are in touch, matches are made in heaven, if Allah wills this match will be made too.

“My prayers are with Shaheen for his continued success on and off the field.”

Shaheen Afridi’s father, Ayaz Khan, had said that he approached Shahid with the proposal, revealing that both families have longstanding relations.

He added that Shahid and his family had agreed to the proposal.

While the marriage has been confirmed, it is not known when the wedding will take place.

Shahid Afridi also said that his daughter is an aspiring doctor but it is not decided whether she will pursue further education in Pakistan or England.

Shahid has five daughters – Aqsa, Ansha, Ajwa, Asmara, and Arwa.

Although Shahid Afridi retired from international cricket in 2017, he remains a popular figure in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Both Shahid and Shaheen had plied their trades in the sixth season of the PSL before the tournament was postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Shahid represents the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League while his future son-in-law Shaheen plays for Lahore Qalandars.

Shahid Afridi previously advised Prime Minister Imran Khan to “fix the problems of old Pakistan”.

During an interview, Shahid said that when Imran Khan was not the PM, his speeches were very impactful.

He said: “The whole nation used to stand up out of excitement whenever Imran Bhai delivered a speech in the past.

“But now, he gives a lot of explanations.

“Imran Bhai should now leave Zardari and Nawaz Sharif alone as he has been talking about them wherever he goes for the past two-and-a-half years.

“Leave what the previous governments have done and focus on what you have to do now.

“God has given you the opportunity, so you can bring about a change.”
