Following rumours of a rift between the pair, Babar Azam attended Shaheen Afridi’s wedding ceremony.

Shaheen Shah Afridi tied the knot with Ansha Afridi – the daughter of Shahid Afridi – at a ceremony in Karachi.

The couple exchanged their wedding vows in a private nikkah ceremony earlier in 2023.

The reception was held at the DHA Golf and Country Club.

Notable sports personalities and athletes were present at the wedding.

Among them was Pakistan’s cricket captain Babar Azam, who had been in the headlines for an alleged feud with Shaheen.

Putting the rumours to rest, Babar congratulated his teammate.

Earlier in the day, Shaheen shared a picture of himself with the skipper and captioned it: “family”.

Reports of a rift between the pair circulated after Pakistan’s loss to Sri Lanka during the 2023 Asia Cup.

This was fuelled by reports of a dressing room clash and claims that there would be a change of captain.

It was reported that Babar addressed the team, urging the players not to think of themselves as “superstars” and that if they failed to perform at the upcoming World Cup, no one would talk about them.

Shaheen then allegedly interrupted with the request, leading to a disagreement between him and Babar.

The alleged row prompted Mohammad Rizwan to intervene.

The news of a rift in the Pakistan team ahead of the World Cup left fans, experts and veterans disturbed and it has all that has been in discussion for over a week now as Pakistan prepare for the tournament.

Shahid Afridi faced claims that he was advocating for Shaheen Afridi to become the next captain of the national side.

Denying the claims, he said: “I was scrolling through my Twitter, and I saw that now they’re running something with my name that Shahid Afridi stated, in my opinion, Shaheen Afridi can lead the team better than Babar Azam, Lahore Qalandars won a PSL trophy under his captaincy.”

He expressed his disappointment over how some of his statements were being portrayed by the media.

Shahid added: “I don’t understand why they are saying such things, even though I express my views on Samaa. I share my perspective on Samaa, but they interpret it in their own way.

“Although I am the only person who keeps Shaheen away from the captaincy.”
