Charges were officially filed by a court in Punjab’s Mansa district against jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and 26 others regarding the Sidhu Moose Wala murder case.

Sidhu was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29, 2022.

The main suspect is Goldy Brar, who was reported to have been shot dead in Fresno, California.

However, Fresno Police dismissed the reports, saying they are “untrue”.

Lieutenant William J Dooley said: “If you are inquiring because of the online chatter claiming that the shooting victim is ‘Goldy Brar’, we can confirm that this is absolutely not true.”

Calling the reports “misinformation”, Lieutenant Dooley said the police department is receiving inquiries from around the world.

He said: “We have received inquiries from around the world this morning as a result of misinformation being spread on social media and online news agencies.

“We are not sure who started this rumour, but it caught on and spread like wildfire.

“But again, it isn’t true. The victim is definitely not Goldy.”

Brar remains at large and no charges have been framed against him.

Satinder Pal Singh Mittal, the counsel for Sidhu’s family, said:

“District sessions Judge HS Grewal framed charges against 27 accused in the Moosewala murder case.”

The court also dismissed the discharge applications of the accused Lawrence Bishnoi, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, Jagtar Singh and Charanjit Singh Chetan.

A hearing has been set for May 20, 2024.

Reacting to the charges, Sidhu’s father Balkaur Singh said that for the first time in two years, the family is feeling some relief.

Bishnoi and 26 others have been charged under Sections 302 (murder), 307 ( murder bid), 341 (wrongful restraint), 326 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 109 (an act or offence committed in consequence of abetment), 212 (harbouring offender) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code, and various sections of the Arms Act and Prisons Act.

After Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder, Goldy Brar claimed responsibility.

According to the police chargesheet, Brar said the murder was carried out to “avenge” the killing of Bishnoi associate Vicky Middukhera.

Brar coordinated with Lawrence Bishnoi, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, Sachin Bhiwani, Anmol Bishnoi, Sachin Thapan, Monu Dagar, Pawan Bishnoi and several gunmen and orchestrated the shooting.

Lawrence Bishnoi, who was allegedly operating his gang from Tihar jail, was arrested by Punjab police in the murder case.
