Anmol often travelled between the US and Canada
Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was arrested in the United States.
He was arrested in Sacramento, California, on November 14, 2024.
Anmol is wanted in India in connection with the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala and politician Baba Siddique.
However, he was not arrested on murder charges.
Anmol’s arrest was for entering the US with forged documents.
The Indian government has filed an extradition request and while the US has indicated there is no possibility of Anmol Bishnoi being sent back to his home country, it has informed India of his arrest.
It is reported that Anmol Bishnoi is detained in Pottawattamie County Jail, Iowa.
Anmol often travelled between the US and Canada, where his brother’s gang had influence and is reportedly being investigated by the latter government.
It is likely that Anmol will be transported to Canada to face questioning over the murder of Khalistan supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
He may be extradited to India afterwards.
US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said:
“It would be appropriate if anyone is going to comment on such a report, it would be the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, not the State Department.
“I prefaced it that way because they may decline to comment, but I certainly am not going to comment on something that falls within their jurisdiction.’’
Earlier in November, Mumbai Police sent a proposal to the central government for the extradition of Anmol, who is named in a case filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
This was after a Maharashtra court issued a non-bailable warrant and a Red Corner Notice was issued by Interpol.
Anmol Bishnoi was previously believed to be in Canada after fleeing India. He also faces two cases filed by the NIA.
The NIA added him to its most wanted list and offered a Rs. 10 Lakh (£9,300) reward.
The Bishnoi gang has recently been in the headlines after a shooting outside Salman Khan’s house.
Security was tightened but threats continued.
The gang is also being investigated for the murder of politician Baba Siddique, known to be close to Salman Khan.
In 2022, the Bishnoi brothers and others were accused of being part of a conspiracy to raise funds and recruit youth for “terrorist acts” in Delhi and other parts of India.
