Spotify RAP91 LIVE marks five years of the streaming platform’s efforts to spotlight Indian hip-hop through live performances.

Across its previous editions, the showcase has featured more than 130 artists from over 25 cities and regions, with performances spanning more than 15 languages.

The event reflects the growing visibility of regional rap styles, with artists performing in languages beyond Hindi and English.

Spotify’s wider RAP 91 offering includes dedicated playlists for Hindi, Punjabi, Malayalam, Haryanvi, Tamil, Marathi and Bhojpuri hip-hop.

The flagship RAP 91 playlist has more than 470,000 followers, while its language-specific playlists collectively have over 1.5 million followers.

Spotify has also reported growth in regional playlists, including Marathi, Bhojpuri and Haryanvi rap, pointing to increased interest in music from across India.

This year’s event was available exclusively to Spotify Premium subscribers through Spotify Premium Rewards, with limited places and registration not guaranteeing entry.

The format gives audiences a chance to discover performers they may not encounter through mainstream charts, bringing regional scenes into one shared live setting together.

Kunwarr’s appearance has drawn further attention to ‘Why?’, but fans will have to wait for an announcement from the singer or his team to confirm the track’s release plans.

The showcase continues to highlight how India’s hip-hop industry is expanding beyond traditional language and regional boundaries, creating more opportunities for artists to reach wider audiences.
