Karan Johar has divulged exciting details about the highly anticipated Student of the Year 3 at the Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF) in Chandigarh.
Unlike the previous two instalments, which were films, Karan revealed that Student of the Year 3 will be a web series.
He announced that Reema Maya, renowned for her work on Nocturnal Burger, will be directing it.
Expressing his penchant for collaborating with emerging directors and writers, Karan emphasised Reema’s unique vision.
He stated: “Reema Maya will be directing the digital version of Student of the Year.
“But it will be her way and definitely not mine because if I’ll enter Reema Maya’s world, then I will make it more of an illusion, which is what her name means.
“I just wanted it to be her voice. She made it her own series.”
Reema Maya stands as an international award-winning filmmaker and the co-founder of Catnip, a prominent production house.
Recognised for her exceptional talent in independent filmmaking, Reema’s short films have garnered acclaim at various prestigious film festivals.
Her remarkable journey includes the Sundance Film Festival 2018, where her short film Counterfeit Kunkoo received widespread acclaim.
Notably, her latest creation, Nocturnal Burger, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2023, solidifying her position as a dynamic force in the industry.
Beyond her cinematic endeavours, Reema has also lent her creative prowess to directing videos for esteemed brands like Netflix, Red Bull and boAt.
It is also reported that Shanaya Kapoor is set to headline the third instalment of Student of the Year.
While the official announcement regarding the web series is pending, speculations surrounding Shanaya’s involvement continue to surface.
Despite initial plans for her debut in Dharma Productions’ Bedhada and the Malayalam film Vrushabha alongside Mohanlal, both projects have reportedly been shelved.
Shanaya’s potential inclusion in the web series adds to the anticipation surrounding the project.
The first Student of the Year, which launched the careers of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra, enjoyed immense success upon its release in 2012.
Karan Johar subsequently produced Student of the Year 2, directed by Puneet Malhotra and featured Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria.
Now, with Student of the Year 3 poised to take the digital route, Karan Johar’s collaboration with Reema Maya signals an exciting new chapter in the franchise’s evolution.
