"Have that one last cup of coffee with me."
Koffee With Karan is a hugely popular television show, which was started by the Indian filmmaker, Karan Johar in 2004.
The show presents Karan interviewing a wide range of celebrities, including Bollywood stars, famous faces from television, and sport champions.
Karan’s show soon became renowned for its gossip and the controversies that the questions generated.
As a result, several celebrities found themselves under fire for the statements and responses they gave on Karan’s famous couch.
Ranbir Kapoor has since denounced the show. In an interview, he said: “I am tired of Koffee With Karan.
“Me and Anushka [Sharma] were going to get the industry together and stop this.
“It’s not fair. [Karan] is making money out of us. We come and we get screwed through the year.”
The controversies have not stopped Karan from coming back with the show season after season.
In 2022, the show began airing its seventh season on Disney+ Hotstar, marking its transition to digital streaming.
In 2024, it wrapped its eighth season.
Karan has confirmed that the show will return for its ninth season.
However, this will be the final one, as the filmmaker bids farewell to his talk show after 22 years.
In a promo on Instagram, Karan said: “This is more of an emotional message than a professional announcement.
“I think it was June 2004 when I told my dad that I really wanted to host a talk show.
“I want to get two celebrities or stars and just have an informal, candid chat with them.
“He looked at me and said, ‘Karan, you will call your friends and talk to them, which you do anyway. Who will pay you for this?’
“He passed away that month itself on June 26, and the very first day I shot for the show was August 16, 2004.
“I am here now, eight seasons later, 22 years later, 161 episodes later and a lot happened.
“I called lovers, friends, family, lovers who went on to become ex-lovers; some of them even got married.
“I nearly put an end to the careers of national icons. I am living with the word ‘nepotism’ even today.
“‘Conjecture’ became a kind of national word – so much happened.
“Everywhere I go, fortunately or unfortunately, I am always asked when the next season of Koffee With Karan is.
“I wonder why they don’t ask me when my next feature film is, but whatever it was, I know this show gave me so much.
“I reached a point in my life where I realised all good things have to come to an end.
“With a heavy heart, I have to say that this will be my very last season of Koffee With Karan.
“There will be trolls, comments, posts, and I am ready to take that on, but within all of that and beneath it, I know there is still abundant love for this cup of coffee.
“So join me in my last season of Koffee With Karan and have that one last cup of coffee with me.”

In another official statement, Karan added: “There are some journeys you don’t plan to end – you simply know, somewhere deep within you, when it is time to let them go.
“Koffee With Karan has been an extraordinary part of my life.
“It has given me friendships, memories, moments of complete madness, a lot of love and, yes, its fair share of controversy!
“But through all of it, what has remained constant is the audience.
“They have laughed with us, debated us, trolled us, celebrated us and, most importantly, kept coming back for another cup.
“Saying goodbye is emotional, but it also feels right.”
“This final season is my way of raising the mug one last time with gratitude, with love, and with everyone who has made Koffee With Karan what it is.”
Karan also said that the reason he is ending the show is because he wants to focus on directing more movies.
The inaugural episode of the season featured Karan’s frequent collaborators, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.
Over the years, regular guests from Bollywood have included Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Rani Mukerji, and Deepika Padukone.
The ninth and final season of Koffee With Karan will begin streaming on Disney+ Hotstar on October 14, 2026.
