"I announce that Koffee with Karan will not be returning"

Karan Johar has announced that his talk show Koffee with Karan will not be returning.

The sixth season took place in 2019 and it had been reported that it would be renewed for another season.

A source said that filming would begin in May 2022.

“Karan is currently shooting for Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani and it’s in May when he will wrap up a major chunk of the film.

“Once calling it a schedule wrap, Karan will commence his work on his chat show, Koffee with Karan.

“The planning and pre-production has already begun and the team is now all ready to start shooting from mid-May.”

But Karan Johar has now revealed that the show will not be returning.

In a statement, he said: “Hello, Koffee with Karan has been a part of my life, and yours, for 6 seasons now.

“I’d like to think we’ve made an impact and even found our place in pop culture history.

“And so, it is with a heavy heart that I announce that Koffee with Karan will not be returning… Karan Johar.”

The announcement left fans disheartened and urged Karan to return with season seven.

One said: “No Karan…you can’t do this!!”

Another tweeted: “But why?? It was an excellent show.”

A third wrote: “That’s really sad!! KWK was and will always be an iconic guilty pleasure for many.”

Koffee with Karan first aired in 2004. The show’s sixth season ended in March 2019.

But why has Koffee with Karan ended?

According to a friend of the filmmaker, there were a number of reasons why Karan decided against bringing back the show.

One of the reasons was that Karan felt he kept bringing back the same guests.

The friend said: “Karan had already started curating his list of guests.

“Then he realised that the guests were either repeats or not interesting enough.

“How many times can he call Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan?”

It was rumoured that the first episode would see newly-married Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor.

“A sense of sameness was creeping in.

“Karan wanted to end Koffee with Karan while it was still the crackling entertainment that it is known to be.”

Another reason was time. According to the friend, Karan believed the show was taking up too much of his time.

Karan is reportedly focused on completing Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.

The friend claimed after completing the film, Karan will move on to Takht, which has been on the shelves for a number of years.
