“I want to make that story, I have the script ready."
Kangana Ranaut has fueled speculations that she is working on a film that highlights the true story of a 2002 rape case.
The news came to light after the Supreme Court abolished the early release of the 11 convicts who were given a life sentence for the gang rape of Bilkis Bano and murdering her family during the Gujarat riots.
Following the court decision, Kangana shared her thoughts on X and revealed she had been working on a script but failed to gain interest in the project.
The revelation came when Kangana was questioned by social media user Varun Verma after he asked:
“You will be able to show the world, how a state government with some terrorist outfit unleashed terror on a particular community.
“It resulted in the rape of a woman and the death of her toddler daughter along with six others from the family.
“You can show how Bilkis fought against the corrupt system when the men responsible were released unlawfully and garlanded in a sic society.
“And how she won today. Will you? Will you do it for Bilkis Bano, feminism or at least humanity?”
Hitting out at streaming platforms for their supposed lack of support, Kangana replied:
“I want to make that story, I have the script ready.
“I have researched and worked on it for three years but Netflix, Amazon and other studios wrote back to me that they have clear guidelines they don’t do so-called politically motivated films.
“JioCinema said we don’t work with Kangana because she supports BJP [Bharatiya Janata Party] and Zee is going through a merger.
“What are my options?”
Kangana is known for her outspoken views and just recently, she ruffled feathers when she described Ranbir Kapoor’s latest movie Animal as misogynistic.
She also called out the public for going to the cinema to watch a film that focused on beating women and called it discouraging.
On social media, the actress had written: “Paid negativity for my films is overwhelming, I have been fighting hard so far but even audiences are encouraging women-beating films where they are treated like sex objects and asked to lick shoes.
“This is deeply discouraging for someone who has been dedicating her life to women empowerment films.
“Might shift careers in the coming years to give the best years of my life to something worthwhile.
