An Indian teacher identified as Arun, of Kammanahalli, Bengaluru, was arrested on Saturday, September 14, 2019, after he allegedly sexually harassed a widow.
The 35-year-old man, who worked part-time at a private school, had promised to marry her before subjecting her to sexual harassment.
Arun had also taken her money and gold jewellery. He allegedly blackmailed the woman using unconsented photographs of her.
The woman, who worked as a housekeeping supervisor at a hospital, explained that she was contacted by Arun in November 2018.
Even though they started speaking in November 2018, they already knew each other as they went to the same school.
The woman’s husband died a number of years ago due to an illness. Since then, she has been living in Kammanahalli, Bengaluru, with her two children, aged nine and six.
Arun had got in touch with the widow and told her that he had divorced his wife.
The woman explained to Kumaraswamy Layout police:
“He told me that his marriage did not last for more than three months and the two got divorced.”
The victim went on to say that Arun asked to marry her and that he would look after her children.
“It gave me little hope for my future but I did not know how to react and asked him to give me some time.”
The woman told her family about the Indian teacher and they approved of the marriage.
However, sometime during January 2019, the woman and Arun had an argument over a small issue. Arun asked her to come to his house so they can resolve things properly.
The woman said: “I went to his house when he offered me a juice and after drinking that, I lost my consciousness.
“He raped me at that time and when I woke up, he told me he would marry me.”
Arun soon started acting controlling towards her which even included taking over her finances and taking her gold jewellery.
“He took my gold jewellery and my ATM cards stating that if I had money then I wouldn’t need him.
“He started forcing me to get into a physical relationship with him and I asked him to wait till marriage. He took Rs. 10 Lakh from my bank account and returned my ATM card.”
The victim revealed to officers that when Arun raped her while unconscious, he also took pictures of her.
She added: “He started showing me those photographs and harassing me.
“He would come to my house and would ask for sexual favours and when I refused, he would beat me and abuse me.”
When the woman continued to refuse his sexual demands, Arun showed the photos to members of her family.
This prompted the victim to take action and she filed a police complaint against Arun on September 13, 2019.
Bangalore Mirror reported that a case was registered and Arun was arrested the next day.
