Royals gathered in Austria for the lavish wedding of an Indian princely scion and a Vanderbilt countess.

Kunwar Dhruv Raj Singh of Doongri married Countess Marie von und zu Eltz in a lavish celebration that brought together members of European aristocracy and Indian royalty in the Austrian Alps.

The couple exchanged vows at the historic St Paul’s Conversion parish church in Bad Aussee, Austria, last weekend.

The Gothic church, once a major pilgrimage site during medieval times, provided the setting for the ceremony.

Before the church wedding, the pair held a Hindu ceremony and civil service three days earlier. Celebrations also included a boat trip on Lake Altaussee.

The bride, Countess Marie Ghislaine von und zu Eltz genannt Faust von Stromberg, is the daughter of Count Peter von Eltz and Princess Gina of Quadt-Wykradt-Isny.

She is a great-granddaughter of King Ludwig III of Bavaria and also descends from the prominent Vanderbilt family through her grandmother, Countess Ferdinandine.

Meanwhile, Kunwar Dhruv Raj Singh comes from the Rajput noble family of Doongri and is a distant cousin of Padmanabh Singh.

The couple arrived at the church in the back of a Suzuki truck.

For the wedding, the bride wore an ivory satin gown with a corseted bodice, a long veil and diamond jewellery featuring what appeared to be a large sapphire necklace.

She was escorted down the aisle by her father, Count Peter von Eltz.

The church was decorated with colourful floral displays, complementing the groom’s vibrant headscarf and pocket square.

The guest list reflected the couple’s royal and aristocratic connections.

Guests included the Duke of Noto, Countess Marie Gabrielle von und zu Arco-Zinneberg, Hereditary Count Ludwig von Waldburg zu Wolfegg und Waldsee and Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh Bahadur of Jaipur.

Among those attending were Prince Dom Rafael de Orleans e Braganca and his fiancée Margherita Delle Piane, Countess Marie Beatrice von Arco Zinneberg, the Princess of Waldburg zu Zeil, the Prince and Princess von Quadt, the Prince of Waldburg zu Wolfegg und Waldsee, Prince Johannes von Fuerstenberg, Prince Alfred von Windisch Graetz, Prince Maximilian von Windisch Graetz and Count and Countess Alexander von Stauffenberg.

Several guests shared glimpses of the celebrations on social media.

Countess Ines de Cominges posted behind-the-scenes photographs on Instagram, describing it as “such a special wedding”.

Her images captured mountain chalets, marquees and guests dressed in colourful traditional and formal attire.

Interior designer Marie-Anne Oudejans also shared photographs from the festivities, showcasing what she described as “drindle dresses, LederHosen, Magic Mountains & Beer, Love and trompettes”.

American fashion designer Phoebe Dahl, granddaughter of author Roald Dahl, posted a video titled “Jaipur goes to Austria”.

She captioned it: “Fairytales do exist and sometimes they look like a tiny town in Austria transformed by the colours, joy, and spirit of Jaipur.”

The wedding is not the first high-profile celebration hosted by the groom.

In 2019, Kunwar Dhruv Raj Singh hosted his extravagant 35th birthday celebrations at Khimsar Fort in Rajasthan.

It was a two-day event themed “radical self-expression” that attracted members of European high society and Indian royalty.
